Kate Middleton Expands Presence on Social Media With Instagram Account for The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood

On Monday, Kate Middleton took to Instagram to reveal a new campaign, titled ‘Shaping Us,’ for The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood – a foundation she created back in June 2021. The organization is part of her larger Royal Foundation, which she started with her husband, Prince William

As part of the campaign, an Instagram account was created and was followed by a series of posts – nine total over a 24-hour period. The campaign is highlighting the importance of early childhood – pregnancy to the age of five – and how our childhood experiences shape us into the adults we grow up to become.

“We currently spend much more of our time and energy on later life. Today, the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood is launching a new campaign, Shaping Us, to raise awareness of the life-changing impact we can have when we build a supportive, nurturing world around children,” she said in a video.

The Instagram account also shared a claymation video about the formative moments throughout a child’s first few years. The song “Breathe a Breath of Me” by Lokki is playing in the background of the video, which tells the story of a little girl and how her surroundings and environment shape her into Layla.

Also on Monday, the Princess of Wales – with her husband in attendance – gave a speech in London to commemorate the campaign. “Those involved in raising children today need the very best information and support in helping to achieve this mission – and this campaign aims to help do that too,” said Middleton.

She stayed busy on Tuesday, taking her efforts to Kirkgate Market in Leeds – speaking to ‘vendors and the public about their experience of early childhood, and what Shaping Us means to them.’ She also spoke to students at the University of Leeds about the Childhood Studies programme they offer there.

Kate Middleton has a busy week planned and it’s only getting started. The campaign has already received a great deal of support from the public, who are happy to know someone is looking out for their children. “By focusing our collective time, energy, and resources … we can make a huge difference,” said Kate.

Why Did Kate Middleton Start the ‘Shaping Us’ Campaign?

Kate Middleton is already going full-force with her new ‘Shaping Us’ campaign. Not only did they create an Instagram account for the campaign, but they have a website and a YouTube page filled with content about early childhood and its impact on our lives as a whole – such as the claymation video from above.

According to the website, there are five reasons why this campaign matters – here they are:

  1. During early childhood, from pregnancy to the age of five, our brains develop at an amazing rate – faster than at any other time in our lives.
  2. Our experiences, relationships, and surroundings at that very young age, shape the rest of our lives.
  3. This is when we start to understand the world in which we live. How to manage our emotions, build relationships with the people around us, believe in ourselves, develop resilience against adversity and have trust in others.
  4. Providing strong support for children, parents and carers during these most preventative years is essential and can have a life-changing impact.
  5. Because, if we can build a supportive, nurturing world around children and those caring for them, we can make a huge difference to the physical and mental health and happiness of generations to come.

On their YouTube page, you’ll find several videos with more information about the importance of early childhood – Our Developing Brain, Building Social Connections, Developing Our Sense of Self, Managing Our Emotions, and Our Social Network. Parents and soon-to-be parents are encouraged to watch them!
