Model Kate Upton and her husband, baseball player Justin Verlander, became parents for the first time on November 7, 2018. The couple named their beautiful baby girl Genevieve Upton Verlander.

And after Genevieve’s birth, Upton made the decision to breastfeed her baby girl. She captioned a photo of her feeding her daughter saying, “Will cherish these moments forever. Can’t imagine a greater superpower!”

Now, Upton is talking more about her decision to breastfeed and all the ups and downs she’s experienced over the last 14 months. In an interview with the Editorialist, the 27-year-old admitted that “having VeVe has changed my life in such a wonderful way.”

However, despite having been in the parenting game for 14 months, she said she’s still learning how to be gentle on herself.

Upton explained that there was “so much pressure to be doing all these things, like breastfeeding on the go — when the reality, for me, was that breastfeeding was sucking the energy away from me. I realized I needed to calm down, to allow my body to recover.”

The new mom also shared how becoming a parent made her more aware of the time she spends on her phone and on social media. “I want to be enjoying my life, enjoying my family, not constantly trying to take the perfect picture.”

“I think my husband wants me to throw my phone away. We talk about it in the house all the time: ‘Let’s have a phone-free dinner.’ We don’t want [our daughter] thinking being on the phone is all that life is.”

And although fans have gotten a glimpse of Upton as a mom thanks to social media, both she and Verlander have made a conscious effort to keep their daughter’s identity off of their feeds.
