While Kelly Clarkson is content being single at the moment, the singer and talk show host says she doesn’t want to be single forever.
But when asked how her kids feel about the idea of her eventually dating again, well she told KOST 103.5 that they are totally against it.
Clarkson shares two kids with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, 10-year-old River and 8-year-old Remington.
Clarkson and Blackstock, who was also her manager during their marriage, were married for nearly 8 years before they finalized their divorce in August 2021, after separating in 2020.
“They constantly bring it up, ‘Please, we don’t want you with anybody else,'” Clarkson said of her kids.
“They’re young, it’s hard to picture their mom with someone else other than their dad.”
But while Clarkson understands where her kids are coming from, she admits she hopes to find love again, someday.
“I have expressed like, ‘Hey, I love you guys but Mommy needs lovings too,'” Clarkson told KOST 103.5.
In June 2023, while a guest on Glennon Doyle’s “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast, Clarkson opened up about how hard her divorce was for her kids.
“Your kids will still have a hard time. It doesn’t matter if you stay, it doesn’t matter if you go, I am still having conversations (with my kids) three years later,” Clarkson said on the podcast.
“My kids just came back from my ex and any time there’s mention of maybe him being with somebody else…they are just really adamant about keeping that dream alive that we might still be together one day,” Clarkson revealed.
Clarkson admitted in the same interview that she struggled with the idea of divorce while still married to Blackstock. But ultimately, it was the right choice for them.
“If there’s always this tug-of-war happening, like, ‘Oh my god I love you, but god I hate you, you are just horrible. That’s not healthy. That’s just emotionally going 9-0 … but you finally get away from that and you realize how ‘OK this actually feels better.’”
