On June 22, Kelly Clarkson sat down with Carson Daly and Hoda Kotb on the TODAY show to promote her new album, Chemistry – just one day before its release. It’s her tenth studio album and is dedicated to her relationship with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock – the good, the bad, the ugly, and the worse.
During her interview, Clarkson was asked if Blackstock listened to the album and what he thinks about it. While she doesn’t think he would care either way, she did reveal that the former couple had a brief conversation about the album via text messaging – giving her an opportunity to clear the air about it.
“We did have a little text exchange about it,” she said. “I don’t even remember why or how it happened, but I said, ‘Hey, I didn’t just diminish us down to one (thing).’ You know what I’m saying? It’s all in there, the ride. The beauty is in there, as well. Now, there’s a lot of pain, but that’s what happens, for all of us.”

She went on to talk about the personal nature of the album and how she has built a career off writing songs that talk about her personal life. At the same time, she had to be careful about what songs she picked for this album because it tells a story that involves her children, who she shares with Blackstock.
“It’s very personal. And I’ve always released personal music — I think I’m that kind of writer in general, everybody knows that,” she said. “I think when you have kids — you both have kids, too — you kind of debate, ‘What am I going to do here?’ So I was very selective about the songs I picked for the album.”
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock started dating in 2012, got married on October 20, 2013, and share two children together – River Rose, 7, and Remington Alexander, 5. Clarkson initially filed for divorce in June 2020 and that divorce was finalized in March 2022 after they reached a settlement.
In April, Clarkson dissed her ex-husband during a Kellyoke segment of her daytime television show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. During the segment, she sang a cover of Gayle’s hit song ‘ABCDEFU,’ but changed some of the lyrics to better resemble her relationship, marriage, and divorce settlement with Blackstock.
Kelly Clarkson to Perform a 10-Night Las Vegas Residency
Kelly Clarkson is making sure her upcoming album receives as much attention as possible. Not only has she promoted it on her social media, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and various interviews over the past few years. And even though the highly-anticipated album is set to drop on June 23, she’s just getting started.
Starting on June 28, Clarkson will perform a 10-night residency in Las Vegas to further promote her new album. The residency, titled Chemistry: An Intimate Evening with Kelly Clarkson, takes place inside Planet Hollywood between June 28 and August 19. She already confirmed she won’t be adding more shows.
“I am only doing 10 shows. I could only commit to 10 shows. That’s why it’s exclusive. There’s only 10 shows. I ain’t adding more. I’m telling you right now. Mama needs a little bit minute of a break,” she told her loyal and excited audience on March 27, during an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.
