On a special episode of Red Table Talk, Kevin Hart spoke with Will Smith about how his kids make him look at his mistakes differently. In 2017, the comedian was revealed to have cheated on his wife, Eniko Parrish.
Kevin Hart explained how hurting his kids feels different than other mistakes.
He told Smith about how his relationship with his 16-year-old daughter, Heaven, has changed since she learned of his affair. He said that “Having a little girl in my life is tough,” as without kids, “You don’t realize the impact that your mistakes can truly have.” But, as a father, “When the kids get involved, it’s a different feeling, it’s a different opinion, it’s a different emotion.” His daughter’s judgment affects him more than other’s does.
He explained why the change in their relationship affects him so much compared to the rest of the controversy, saying that “When your child shows disappointment, shows emotion, shows I don’t understand why, and now you gotta have those conversations, well now the head drops for the first time.” His connection with his daughter meant that her opinion of him is more important than anyone else’s, explaining that as a father, “Now you realize that there’s a different emotional chord that can be pulled on you that nobody else has the privilege of ever touching – and my daughter touched on that chord,”

Kevin Hart also explored the nature of his current relationship with Heaven.
Hart called the conversation with his daughter after his affair became public information “one like no other,” and that regaining her trust in the aftermath was a long and important process. He explained that “Getting my daughter back, getting my daughter to understand that I was sorry, that I made a mistake – that was real.”
Though they’ve been working on their relationship, Kevin Hart said that Heaven is still “tough on [him]” and that she “don’t play no games with her father.” However, their conversations and effort have made Hart a more thoughtful person. He explained how all of his relationships have “improved” with his newfound understanding of the impact his actions have on those around him. With his and Heaven’s conversations, Hart says he is “now aware of the sh-t that I could’ve done to bring havoc or bring problems.”
