The Kar-Jenner crew celebrated Halloween at Kendall Jenner‘s birthday party on Wednesday.
As usual, Kim Kardashian West documented the evening on social media. In a now-deleted Instagram video, she calls party-goers the R-word for not recognizing her costume — and it angered many fans.
As reported by People, Kardashian alongside her best friend Jonathan Cheban, asked guests in attendance if they could figure out her costume.
The 38-year-old said:
“Okay guys, we are Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee.”
Then added:
“Nobody knows who we are here! You guys are all too f**king young. This is so sad.”
According to People, in a separate video she’s heard telling former assistant Stephanie Shepherd:
“Nobody knows who I am. Yeah! Retarded.”
Following the video, fans slammed the KKW Beauty mogul for her offensive remarks.
Kardashian West deleted the video on Thursday, but not before fans scolded her for using the derogatory term.
One fan tweeted:
So people that don’t know who you are for Halloween are retarded really!! Smh maybe you should spend time with people with disabilities that way you can show more empathy towards those that are special needs.
Another follower commented:
That was a really unnecessary use of the word retarded. I think we should all know & do better by now. It breaks my heart and angers my soul when I hear that word thrown around, knowing the pain that it carries.
In a statement to E! News, Kardashian West apologized for the insensitive comment. She said:
I want to apologize for what I said in a recent video post that is inappropriate and insensitive to the special needs community.
Back in July, her younger sister Khloé Kardashian came under fire for using the R-word and apologized for making the exact same mistake.
However, some fans said there’s never any excuse for using the word retarded as an insult and that everyone should help end the stigma associated with the word and its usage.
