Last week, Kim Kardashian West threw herself a birthday celebration with 30 of her closest family and friends. And people are not happy about it.
Despite claiming that her guests had quarantined prior to the extravagant trip and that they were tested for COVID-19 before, during, and after the celebration, people found the excursion, or at least the Instagram post she shared about it, extremely tone deaf.

Kim Kardashian West Slammed for Tone Deaf Post About Birthday Excursion
Okay, so here is the deal, according to Page Six, Kim spent over $1 million to throw this 40th birthday party for herself. From chartering an 88 seat Boeing 777 to renting out an entire private island and treating her guests to parties, spa days, and more, Kim really outdid herself to ring in her 40th year of life.
Here is what the reality star, makeup mogul, and law student had to say about her elaborate birthday soiree:
“Forty and feeling so humbled and blessed. There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter. For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today. Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment. After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time. We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is.”
To which people took to the comments section to reply with a resounding, “Read the room, Kim.” While most of the world has had to quarantine away from family, celebrate their own birthdays apart from their friends, and many furloughed due to the toll COVID-19 has taken on the world’s economy, people couldn’t believe how brazen Kim’s Instagram posts have been.
“Brilliant observation! This kind of vacation is out of reach for most people COVID-19 or no COVID-19,” one commenter wrote. “Nothing says humble like bragging about a private island trip!” another added.
And a third commenter said, “This is quite literally the most tone deaf thing you’ve ever posted.” And thousands agreed.
And yet, all of this backlash has not stopped her friends and family from taking to their own social media pages to post their own photos from the trip while thanking Kim for the “trip of a lifetime.” It hasn’t stopped Kim, who was given a surprise 40th birthday party by her sisters prior to this trip, from post even more photos.
Although not pictured, it was also reported that Kanye West was in attendance. Her last post was a photo of her mom, Kris Jenner, and her standing on the island. Kim Kardashian West captioned the photo, “Now that I have your attention…this a reminder to VOTE. 6 days.” Well, I guess there is that.
