Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard Admit They Weren’t Getting Along During the First Days of Quarantine: ‘We’ve Been At Each Other’s Throats’

Actors Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard aren’t shying away from the truth. They’ve been together in the same home for a long time since going into quarantine and, quite frankly, they are getting on each other’s nerves.

While talking with Katie Couric on Instagram Live, Bell and Shepard noted that while they’re getting along good with the kids, it’s been stressful for mom and dad. “We’ve been at each other’s throats real bad,” Bell said before Shepard added, “Oh ya, it just ended like eight minutes ago. Perfect timing.”

“This is as physically close as we’ve been in days,” Bell admitted. “Because we’ve just found each other revolting.” And that’s when Shepard joked that “America’s sweetheart has some character defects.”

And their fans admitted that they, too, are experiencing the same feelings toward their own significant others and appreciated their honesty. “I love seeing celebs be normal people,” one commenter wrote after watching the interview. “‘At each other’s throats,’ LOL. I can so relate! Appreciate the candor guys!”

And another person added, “We greatly appreciate the honesty. The fake veneer that is so often layered over Hollywood relationships often creates a sense of unrealistic expectations in private relationships. Just know your relationship discomfort and openness about it is cathartic for many of us.”

In addition to talking about how their relationship is faring in all of this, Bell also opened up about how her kids are handling the social distancing. The mom of two young girls, Delta and Lincoln, admitted that while their daughters haven’t had a lot of questions during this time, she and Shepard have been very open with them about what is going on in the world right now.

“We’ve been very open about telling them what the disease is about, and they talk about germs enough in school and washing your hands, that they understood the initial concept. But we said this one’s worse, especially worse if you’re older. We’ve tried to give them an opportunity to ask questions, but it hasn’t really happened.”

Luckily, a few days after their initial chat with Couric, Bell told Entertainment Tonight that she and Shepard are doing much better. “We’ve gotten on each other’s last nerve these last couple days,” Bell explained. “We’re doing much better now because were laughing about it. But when we were not laughing about it for the first couple of days, that’s the hard spot.”

“I love spending time with him and he loves spending time with me but I think what is different about this quarantine time is you have so much more time to think about the other persona and their actions and sort of replay what they said or attach a meaning to something that they did and that I could do without. Nobody really needs time for that. That’s useless.”

And now that Bell and Shepard have found what works for them and their relationship during this unprecedented time, the mom explained that they are having fun with their girls doing art projects around the house and reading good books.
