As with most high profile celebrities, everything Taylor Swift does is dissected, nitpicked, and ridiculed by the public. Now Lana Del Rey is speaking out.
And a lot of people have had a lot to say about Swift for the last several months. Especially her time at the Grammys this past Sunday.
People ridiculed the singer for announcing her new album while accepting her 13th Grammy award, they slammed her for “snubbing” Celine Dion while accepting her 14th Grammy award, and they had a lot to say about Swift bringing her friend and co-creater, Lana Del Ray, on stage with her.
After winning Album of the Year for the fourth time for her album Midnights, Taylor Swift, who walked the red carpet and shared the table with Lana Del Rey, asked Lana to come up on stage with her. Lana and Taylor created a song together, Snow At The Beach, for the Midnights album.
However, despite being featured on the album, some people thought it was cruel of Swift to bring Lana up on stage because Lana was also nominated for Album of the Year.
During Swift’s acceptance speech, she acknowledged Lana. “But I think so many female artists would not be where they are and would not have the inspiration they have if it weren’t for the work that [Lana has] done. I think she’s a legacy artist, a legend in her prime right now. I’m so lucky to know you and to be your friend.”
Yet despite the kind words, people still had negative things to say about Swift’s decision to bring Lana up on stage. Now, Lana Del Rey is seemingly speaking out about the discourse in the comments section of an Instagram post.
“I literally just loved being there. I love to see everyone, get the tea and hang out. Get dressed up,” Del Rey wrote. “I literally did not feel 1 ounce of negative emotion at any point in that award ceremony. It was pure funniness and laughter.”
