On Friday (August 18), Angela Tian revealed that the years-long custody battle between her and Chris Hope – over their 14-year-old daughter, Tay Tian (known as Lil Tay) – is finally over. At last, the Tian family can take a deep breath of fresh air after several years of what they describe as a ‘nightmare.’
“We have prevailed, justice has prevailed, and God has prevailed! We have won our case in court and my children and I can finally move on from this nightmare” Angela wrote in a statement obtained by The New York Post – adding that her daughter can now ‘pursue and achieve her dreams on her own terms.’
While her representatives are unable to release court documents or any further details about the custody battle, it was revealed that Angela Tian was awarded $275,000 as part of the agreement. As you can imagine, Angela is relieved and comforted knowing that they are ‘finally a happy family again, together.’

The news comes roughly one week after Lil Tay was the victim of a death hoax. The social media world came to a complete halt when an Instagram post – published to her account – revealed that Lil Tay and her step-brother, Jason Tian, had died. The post appeared to be written by family, but that wasn’t true.
On August 10, Lil Tay came forward and revealed that she and her brother were alive and that her social media account was hacked. “ I’m completely heartbroken and struggling to even find the right words to say. It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours,” Lil Tay said of the death hoax in her official statement.
News of the custody battle made headlines in 2018 when an alleged former associate of Lil Tay claimed that she was forced to move back to her father’s house in Vancouver – which prompted her absence from social media. The associate claimed that she had endured abuse from her absentee father, Chris Hope.
On August 18, Lil Tay posted an update from her family’s lawyers. Not only are they receiving $275,000, but Chris is being ordered to pay monthly child support (which he allegedly hasn’t paid since 2014) and Angela is gaining ‘sole day-to-day and financial decision-making powers and responsibilities’ over Lil Tay.
Angela Tian Details the ‘Years of Pain and Oppression’ Lil Tay Experienced
In her statement on Friday (August 18), Angela Tian detailed the impact the custody battle had on her and her two children – Lil Tay and Jason Tian. She says it took ‘years of blood, sweat, and tears’ and has put her family in a ‘constant state of severe depression’ – not just with her, but with Jason and Tian, as well.
“Tay has had to talk to counselors for 2 hours weekly. We have dreaded every waking moment with no hope in sight for years,” Angela Tian wrote of her daughter’s mental health. “I have been financially ruined fighting for my daughter’s rights and freedom, which should have never been taken away to begin with.”
She goes on to denounce the wrongdoings of Chris Hope and said ‘there are no words to describe ‘the years of pain and oppression my daughter and I have suffered.’ Not only that, but she adds that they were ‘ruthlessly stripped of basic rights and freedoms’ as a result of Hope’s ‘disgusting financial motivations.’
