A labret piercing is pierced through the skin from the outside of the mouth to the inside, below the bottom lip. In this example we have a ring but it can also hold a single stud that sits just below the bottom lip.
Vertical labret lip piercings are very popular today. Instead of a normal labret, a vertical labret is pierced through the bottom lip and is only on the outside of the mouth.
A lip ring that’s off to the side is sometimes called a side labret. It’s a lip piercing with an understated cool about it. Go classic with a ring or rock a stud for even more contrast.
Snake bites are hugely popular double lip piercings that sit just below the bottom lip. It’s easy to see why they got the evocative name.
A Monroe lip piercing is a single stud piercing that sits above the lip on the left side of the face in the style of Marilyn Monroe‘s iconic beauty mark. It’s a dainty piece of face candy that is irresistible for some.
If you’re less of a Marilyn and more of a Madonna, the Madonna lip piercing is simply an upper lip stud that sits on the right side of the face. It’s so cute!
Medusa lip piercings have become very popular today. They sit just above the cupid’s bow in the indented part above the upper lip.
An Ashley lip piercing is a single piercing that goes through the front of the lip and directly through it to the back. Sometimes it is also referred to as an inverted vertical labret.
For people with multiple lip piercings, Jestrum piercings are highly favored. We managed to find an example of a solo Jestrum which is also called a vertical Medusa. It gets that name because like a Medusa, the piercing goes through the philtrum but instead of going through to the inside of the mouth, it goes through the upper lip.
Jestrum & Horizontal Labret
Here’s another example of a Jestrum. It’s been paired with a horizontal labret that pierces through the bottom lip twice. Together, these piercings create an interesting constellation.
Dahlia piercings are two piercings that hit right at the corners of the mouth. You sometimes find these lip piercings called Joker piercings and no matter what you decide to call them, you will walk away with a very interesting look if you decide to go this route.
Spider bites are lip piercings that are paired together on either side of the bottom lip. We suppose any such placement on any location around the lips would still be considered spider bites but the lower lip is the most common.
A pairing with an interesting name, cyber bites, consists of a Medusa piercing at the philtrum and a standard labret piercing on the lower lip. This individual is wearing the look well!
Angel bites are two lip piercings on the upper lip that are symmetrically placed. It’s a bold look that many people are just now giving a try today.
We suppose dolphin bites could be considered spider bites but let us not confuse anyone! Dolphin bites are lip piercings paired together that sit just below the center of the lower lip.
Shark bites are like double snake bites (four piercings total) that sit below the lower lip symmetrically across from one another. It’s a bit of a commitment but if you’re into the idea, you should go for it.
Canine bites get their name because each piercing sits in front of your canine teeth. Essentially, it consists of angel bites and snake bites. In the above example, you will find canine bites as well as a vertical labret.
T-rex bites are a total of eight lip piercings. Imagine the canine bites above but doubled. That’s a whole lot of metal!
All the Bites
When we get to multiple lip piercings like these, it’s best not to cut hairs with what type of bites you’re looking at. We find a total of eight piercings through the upper and lower lips.
More Bites on Bites
Here’s another interesting scheme that consists of seven lip piercings. Work with your piercer and they can help you devise the perfect scheme for your face.
Here’s one of the more extreme lip piercings on this list. That hole in this person’s lower lip is called a stretched labret. The gauge that’s used to stretch the whole has been removed for the picture but most of the time you will see these plugged up with an interesting piece of jewelry.
On the bottom lip, you will find a stretched labret again. On top, this person is also stretching their Medusa piercing. It’s your life and your body, folks!
Smiley piercings are just barely considered lip piercings. The piercing goes through the frenulum which is a flap of tissue that connects the upper lip to the gums. They are only visible when the wearer is smiling, hence the name.
We count ten different piercings in this person’s lips. If you’re living for a bunch of metal in your face, do you.
