Twelve years ago, Mariah Carey was a guest on The Ellen Degeneres Show. And while many celebrities have spoken out in defense of Ellen herself following the recent claims of harassment that has gone on behind the scene of her show, Carey is sharing a different type of story.
In 2008, while talking with Ellen, Carey was pregnant. It was news the pop star was trying to keep a secret but throughout the interview, Ellen kept pressuring her to admit to the fact that she was going to be a mom.

In the video, which is now being shared after Carey discussed the awkward moment in a recent interview with Vulture, Ellen brings up the rumors that she was pregnant. Carey laughs as she asks Ellen not to “discuss that.”
But instead of letting it go, Ellen asks Carey to toast to not being pregnant with champagne. “This is peer pressure. [Do] you see what Ellen is doing? This is peer pressure,” Carey said in the video. While Carey never admits to the pregnancy, she does fake drinking the champagne leading to Ellen saying, “You’re pregnant!”
Mariah Carey Talks Uncomfortable Pregnancy Interview With Ellen
Now, Carey is revealing that the stunt wasn’t planned and that it made her very uncomfortable. In fact, Carey told Vulture that she was trying to keep the pregnancy quiet having suffered a miscarriage before. Sadly, Carey would experience another miscarriage several weeks after the interview.
“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” the singer told Vulture. “I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment. [There’s] an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do?”
