Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene Reports Comedian Jimmy Kimmel to the Police Over a Joke

On April 4, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene issued a tweet. The tweet was critical of her fellow Republican colleagues, Senator Lisa Murkowski, Senator Susan Collins, and Senator Mitt Romney.

Greene was critical of the three senators because they vowed to vote yes, helping confirm the newest Supreme Court Judge nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. She further made the baseless claim that Murkowski, Collins, and Romney are now “pro-pedophile” because of their vote to confirm.

Greene’s tweet is seemingly in reference to a specific line of questioning during Judge Jackson’s confirmation hearing.

As FactCheck.org reported, republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee have accused Jackson of displaying “a consistent pattern of giving child porn offenders lighter sentences.”

However, Judge Jackson defended her rulings by explaining that “she consistently weighs all statutory factors concerning sentencing — including the recommended sentence in the probation officer’s presentencing reports, which the Republicans did not consider.”

“In that context, Jackson’s sentences in cases involving child porn ‘matched the recommendation by either the prosecution or the probation office in most of the cases,’ as Senator Richard Blumenthal noted and Jackson agreed,” FactCheck.org explained. The website further deducted claims made by Republican senators by way of plea deals involved in several of the cases in question.

Thousands of people were also taken aback by Greene’s tweet, especially given her support for former President Trump who has had close ties to a convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

Late night host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel highlighted Representative Greene’s tweet and reacted to it by saying, “where is Will Smith when you need him?” That response was a reference to Smith’s behavior at the Oscars in which he smacked Chris Rock in the face.

According to Forbes, after hearing about Kimmel’s own joke about her, she reached out to the police. Greene took to Twitter to share a clip of the joke, saying she had filed a report with the Capitol Police over the “threat of violence against” her.

In a statement made by her team, they told Forbes that “Kimmel calling for ‘violence to be committed against’ Greene ‘will not be tolerated,’ adding it takes all threats of violence against the congresswoman very seriously. Reps for Jimmy Kimmel have not yet issued a statement regarding Greene’s police report.

It’s unclear how the Capitol Police will handle this.
