Matthew McConaughey Reveals That His Father Died Having Sex with Mom

American treasure Matthew McConaughey has polished the story of his life into a forthcoming memoir entitled Greenlights. Ahead of the book’s release, the Dazed and Confused actor is People’s cover story and he had some pretty interesting things to reveal to fans about his late father, James Donald McConaughey‘s death.

The actor told People that his father died as he’d always knew he would. James McConaughey died in bed with his wife, Kay.

Matthew McConaughey says that his father explained to him from an early age that he knew how he’d die, saying, ‘Boys, when I go, I’m gonna be makin’ love to your mother.’

“I got a call from my Mom. ‘Your dad died.’ My knees buckled. I couldn’t believe it. He was my dad. Nobody or nothing could kill him. Except mom. He’d always told me and my brothers, ‘Boys, when I go, I’m gonna be makin’ love to your mother.’ And that’s what happened. He had a heart attack when he climaxed.”

James died in 1992. He and Kay had a complicated relationship that involved marrying, separating, and remarrying a total of three times. Matthew was conceived shortly after their third wedding.

“They were, at times, violent,” he told People. “As I say in the book, that is how they communicated. They were divorced twice, married three times, I mean, yeah, it was like the Pacific Ocean in a storm.”

But, that has not stopped Matthew from believing in love. According to Entertainment Tonight, he tried to set up his 88-year-old mother with Hugh Grant‘s 91-year-old dad.

“His father’s 91, my mother’s 88,” Matthew told the outlet “Yeah, why not? Next week, they’re supposed to meet, and we probably won’t see them for the rest of the night.”

“Being a dad was always my only dream. I can’t think of anything being more important,” he told People, sharing that he has aspired to be a father since he was 8 years old. He shares  Levi, 12, Vida, 10, and Livingston, 8, with his wife Camila Alves McConaughey, who he married in 2012.

As for pandemic life, the Oscar-winner said his family is adjusting fine. “They have doubled down on their hobbies, creative things and parts of themselves I don’t think they would have leaned into if they were back in school,” he explained.

“One of the assets of this COVID quarantine is they’ve been forced to be more self-reliant. They’ve been forced to create their way out of their boredom,” he revealed.
