The former child actor Matthew Mindler‘s cause of death has been confirmed days after he was discovered at his college campus in Pennsylvania.
According to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office, the 19-year-old died by suicide.
Mindler had been missing for days before he was found dead on Saturday morning in Manor Township, which is nearby Millersville University. He was a first-year student, the school’s president, Daniel A. Wubah, previously shared in a statement.
“It is with a grieving heart that I let you know of the death of 19-year-old Matthew Mindler from Hellertown, Pennsylvania, a first-year student at Millersville University. Our thoughts of comfort and peace are with his friends and family during this difficult time,” Wubah shared in a post to Instagram.
“A search had been underway for Matthew since Thursday after he was reported missing,” Wubah began. “Millersville University Police and law enforcement agencies from the area had been searching for him since that time. Matthew was found deceased this morning, Saturday, August 28 in Manor Township near campus. Matthew was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center by the coroner for further investigation.”

Mindler was last seen leaving his residence hall at Millersville University at around 8:11 p.m. local time on Tuesday, according to a prior new release from the school.
School officials said that Mindler attended his classes up until Tuesday. But it wasn’t until Wednesday night he was reported missing after “he did not return to his room or return phone calls from his family.”
University police proceeded to file a missing adult report with the National Crime Information Center this past Thursday afternoon. They then notified local police departments of Mindler’s disappearance at the time.

Mindler’s body was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center this past weekend, according to Wubah. In addition, Wubah shared to Instagram how now is a time to come together as a unit in the wake of Mindler’s passing.
“As our community comes together to grieve the passing of our student, Matthew Mindler, we continue to extend our thoughts and support to Matthew’s family, friends and loved ones. The University is working with Matthew’s family to determine a way to honor his life and bring much needed attention to suicide awareness.”
Mindler is known for As the World Turns, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Chad: An American Boy, and the 2011 comedy-drama Our Idiot Brother, where he played Emily Mortimer and Steve Coogan’s son.
