Maui Wildfires: Christina Hall Gives Update on Parents, Who Were Forced to Relocate to Kihei From Lahaina

Christina Hall is sending her ‘thoughts and prayers’ to anyone affected by the Maui wildfires, which have been ravaging their way through Maui County, Hawaii since Tuesday (August 8). She shared those well wishes on her Instagram Story, where she posted an update on her parents, who are in Maui right now.

While she didn’t specify whether or not her parents live in the Maui area, she did confirm that her parents ‘are currently in Maui’ and that she’s ‘grateful they are ok.’ She described Maui as her ‘favorite place on the planet’ and claimed to have gone to Lahaina (where her parents were)‘every year since I was a child.’ 

“What’s happened there is beyond devastating. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by these horrific fires,” she wrote in a text overlay on her Instagram Story. In the background of the text, she shared a Facebook post by her parents, who detailed the horrific scene that has unfolded in Maui County.

In her parents’ Facebook post, they confirmed that they had relocated to Kihei after spending the first few days in Lahaina – roughly 24 miles from Kihei. While they were without electricity, internet, TV, and cell service (limited) in Lahaina, they were pleased to be ‘safe, have electricity, and a place to stay’ in Kihei.

“The whole area of Lahaina Town is gone. People from hotel areas are lined up by the hundreds to get on the buses that are transporting them to the airport,” they wrote in the Facebook post. “There is no electricity in the Lahaina area, stores and restaurants are closed. So many people have lost their homes.”

It took her parents several tries before getting access to the road out of Lahaina, but they finally made it. In addition to their update, they posted several photos of the tragic scene that is unfolding in the area – buildings burned, smoke in the air, and no signs of life. The dire need for help in the Maui area is obvious.

Christina Hall was born and raised in Anaheim, California, but she does have ties to Hawaii and the island of Maui. Not only does she visit Lahaina every year (like she mentioned in her post), but she exchanged vows with her husband, Josh Hall, in a Maui wedding ceremony – five months after they wed privately.

Maui Wildfires Claim 80 Lives and More Than $5.5 Billion in Damages

On Saturday (August 12), Maui County officials confirmed that 80 people have died as a result of the Maui wildfires since August 8, but that number is expected to rise as search and rescue teams work their way through the wreckage. More than 4,500 people need shelter and another 1,000+ are feared missing.

Not only that, but the Maui wildfires have left behind nearly $5.5 billion in damages with more than 2,719 structures exposed to the fire – more than 2,200 of those structures are either demolished or mangled. More than 2,100 acres have burned and the city needs more than 350,000 gallons of clean water. 

“The whole town was on fire. It was just an inferno, black smoke everywhere,” said Keao Shaw, a 39-year-old resident of Maui who runs a charter boat business. He and his family ended up losing his house in the wildfires. “Everything is replaceable. Everything is rebuildable – it’s just going to take time.”
