Meet Orlando Bloom’s New Foster Dog, Buddy

After the tragic loss of his dog Mighty in July, Orlando Bloom has a new furry friend named Buddy. In a touching Instagram post, the Carnival Row star let fans know about the new dog he’s currently fostering.

While he notes that Mighty can never be replaced, his new pal is helping him cope.

Orlando Bloom shared an image of his new dog, Buddy and he’s just as adorable as you’d expect.

“BUDDY a one year old something & something mix,” the star wrote in a lengthy caption. The dog truly seems like he’s enjoying this Bloom-snuggle.

“Nothing can replace mighty man, but fostering this little guy has really filled my heart,” Bloom wrote, referencing his late puppy who died this summer after going missing.

“If you’ve never fostered or are considering, I’d highly recommend it — it leaves two beings better off & remember what they say never judge a book by its cover,” he continued. He also included a “before photo” of his new canine pal.

“Thanks to @tobiessmalldogrescue also @thelabellefoundation for helping me to find my best ‘buddy’ ????,,” Bloom concluded.

A fan asked Bloom if he’d be keeping the foster dog, and he replied “At this point I can’t see myself giving him up ????good thing about [fostering] is you can see if there’s a connect cos that’s all it’s about for me.”

The happy news of Buddy follows the devastating news of his last dog, Mighty. “After 7 days of searching from sunrise to sunset and into the wee hours, today, the 7th day—the number of completion—we found his collar,” Bloom wrote shortly after Mighty’s death. “I have wept more this week than I thought possible, which has been very cathartic and healing.”

Recounting the search for Mighty, which began July 14 after he went missing, Bloom wrote he “left no stone unturned, crawled [into] all the manholes, under the roads, searched every backyard and creek bed” and “had two separate sniffer dogs do their best, as well.”

The LOTR star got a tattoo in tribute to his late pup. “I feel sure he was looking down on me whistling in every back yard and knowing that I was doing all I possibly could to respect our bond,” added Bloom, in part. “He was more than a companion. It was a soul connection for sure. I’m sorry. I love you. Thank you. RIP my MIGHTY HEART my little fellow A ♠️’s.”

Bloom also expressed his gratefulness to the community for letting him “search through their yards for him” and for allowing his “midnight walks.”

“It was reassuring to see the best of people even in the worst of times,” Bloom added.

Bloom’s fiancée Katy Perry, who gave birth to their daughter Daisy Dove the following month, re-posted his tattoo video on her own Instagram at the time, sharing a sweet message to Mighty. “We’ll miss our little buddy boy, Nugget’s brother so much. Forever a paw-shaped hole in our hearts ????,” wrote the singer.

“Today after a full week of searching for Orlando and Katy’s dog Mighty we had the painstaking experience of finding Mighty who had already passed over the rainbow bridge and then giving them the most horrible news,” read a July 21 post from Dog Days Search and Rescue. “Our team worked tirelessly with Mighty’s whole family every single day to search for him.”

“Orlando has such a strong love and passion for his little boy Mighty and when he spoke about him you could just feel the emotion and love in every word,” the searchers continued. “This is not how we hope or envision for any rescue we become involved with to end. It has left a hole in our hearts that can not be repaired and we never even had the chance to meet this miraculous pup.”

It was a said state of affairs for all involved, but we’re so happy to see that Bloom’s got a little Buddy to help him heal. We love that he continues to amplify local organizations like Dog Days and Tobie’s Small Dog Rescue. Fostering a dog is an amazing experience and if you’d like some company, now would be a great time to share your love with a dog of your own!
