The Adorable Way Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Remind Their Children About Their Grandmother, Princess Diana

Just in case you didn’t already have enough to watch this holiday season, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently debuted Volume I of their latest two-volume docuseries. The couple released the first three episodes of Harry & Meghan on Thursday with the final three episodes airing next Thursday, December 15.

The first episode gave viewers an inside look at the couple’s life thus far – including their first date, early romance, marriage, and parenthood. It also, of course, had several touching tributes and moments dedicated to Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana – who passed away in 1997 from a car crash.

The Royal couple began dating in 2016, announced their engagement in 2017, and got married in 2018. Their first child – a son named  Archie Mountbatten-Windsor – was born in 2019 and his little sister – Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor – was born in 2021. They’re now enjoying family life in Montecito, California.

While their children won’t have the opportunity to meet their late grandmother, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are dedicated to ensuring her legacy lives on through them. That was put on full display during the first episode of Harry & Meghan when Meghan shared a touching moment with her adorable son, Archie.

The scene shows Meghan holding her son as they look at an iconic black-and-white photo of Princess Diana – a photo that hangs on the wall of his nursery. “Who’s that?” asks Meghan before adding, “Hi, Grandma. That’s Grandma Diana.” The photograph was famously taken by Patrick Demarchelier

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of the photograph. Harry originally mentioned it in an AppleTV+ docuseries titled The Me You Can’t See in 2021. “I got a photo of her in his nursery, and it was one of the first words that he said — apart from ‘mama,’ ‘papa,’ it was then ‘grandma’. Grandma Diana,” he said.

“It’s the sweetest thing, but at the same time, it makes me really sad because she should be here,” he added in the 2021 docuseries. Prince Harry has been open about his admiration for his mother, which is a large reason why he wants his children to grow up knowing and remembering her as he remembered her.

Prince Harry Sees a Lot of His Mother’s Traits in Meghan Markle

Back to the first episode of Harry & Meghan, Prince Harry had plenty of good things to say about his wife, Meghan Markle. He couldn’t help but share some of the traits he sees in Meghan that remind him of his mother – which makes sense, considering how often they pay tribute to her during public outings.

“So much of what Meghan is, and how she is, is so similar to my mom. She has the same compassion, she has the same empathy, she has the same confidence. She has this warmth about her,” said Prince Harry. His love for his wife, his mother, and his children was apparent throughout the docuseries.

Prince Harry also spoke of the couple’s decision to step down as senior working royals – a decision that became official in February 2021. It was met with a lot of criticism as some saw it as a form of disrespect and dishonor to the Royal family. Nonetheless, they’ve managed to remain in somewhat good standing.

“I accept that there will be people around the world who fundamentally disagree with what I’ve done and how I’ve done it. But I knew that I had to do everything I could to protect my family, especially after what happened to my mum. I didn’t want history to repeat itself,” continued Harry in the opening episode.

We have one week to binge-watch the first three episodes before the final three episodes air next Thursday!
