While talking with Joe Rogan on his podcast, pop star Miley Cyrus opened up about her divorce from her former longtime love Liam Hemsworth. Cyrus and Hemsworth first met when the singer was 16 on the set of the movie they starred in together, Last Song.

For ten years, the couple had been in an on-again-off-again relationship until they got married in December 2018. Several months after becoming husband and wife, the actors made the decision to end their marriage. By 2020, their divorce was finalized.

During the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Cyrus opened up about “the very public divorce” she recently went through, telling Rogan that it “f**king sucked.” “What really sucked about it wasn’t the fact that me and someone that I loved realized that we don’t love each other the way that we used to anymore. That’s okay, I can accept that. I can’t accept the villanizing and just all those stories that, like it’s just amazing to me that the public kind of thinks that there’s no gap of time that they didn’t see that could possibly be what led to this.”

The singer then brought up how people assumed that she had divorced Hemsworth only to get involved in the next relationship the following day. Cyrus has been spotted in Italy with her now ex-girlfriend Kaitlynn Carter shortly after news of her and Hemsworth’s divorce was made public.

“Like, it’s not, ‘One day you were happy on the carpet, and the next you’re making out with your friend in Italy,’ what the f**k?” Cyrus continued, “Well, there was a lot of time between that you didn’t see.”

Now, Cyrus says she’s viewed as “cold” by her exes because “because I leave when things are done.” And that is why Miley thinks her next relationship will be with an older man.

“That’s why I’m looking for an older man. I don’t need a man or a woman that’s gonna take care of me. I can take care of me because I’ve got money, I’ve got all the things that I need to take care of myself. I need them to be able to take care of them. I guess I really don’t need to be in a relationship at all. But it does sound nice.”

She also talked about how her relationship with Hemsworth was hard to let go of because it was almost like a security blanket to her. “Actually I called the love of mine who I was with when we got divorced, it was almost like a pacifier,” the singer told Rogan.

“It was that thing I just needed not because we were in love anymore but because of the comfort and because my brain said, ‘Oh, this feels better. This is comforting.’ But actually, knowing that I was giving in to an addiction made me feel way worse. I had the hangover. Next day, okay, we sleep together, next day, I’m totally hungover. It felt like a relapse every time I’d go back.”

And while it does “sound nice” to be in a mature relationship, Cyrus has enjoyed this time in her life as a single woman. She even called this moment in her life as “pivotal.”
