Talk about a big surprise, Mindy Kaling is now a mom of two! When it comes to her role as a mom, the actress prefers to keep that part of her life private.
And to be honest, she’s very good at it. Not only does the public not know the father of her now two children, but fans had no idea she was expecting or gave birth.

Mindy Kaling first became a mom in 2017 when she welcomed a daughter into the world, who she named Katherine Kaling. Nearly three years later, Kaling is now the proud mom to a baby boy, who she named Spencer Kaling.
While a guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in October, Kaling revealed her big secret. According to the new mom of two, she gave birth to Spencer on September 3. “This is news to a lot of people,” Kaling admitted with a big smile on her face. “It’s true.”
As Kaling continued, while it took a little bit of warming up to the idea that she’s no longer an only child, Katherine is loving being a big sister. “She was very ambivalent, at first, to be generous. She was really worried about her toys being taken.”
“I think in her mind because she’s two-and-a-half, almost three, she thought it would be another child her same size. But then she was delighted when he arrived home with me and he was just a blob who couldn’t take her toys. She’s a huge fan now that she’s met him.”
And when asked by Colbert how she managed to keep her pregnancy such a big secret, she said it wasn’t all that difficult because no one really saw her. She added that she would have maybe announced the pregnancy if the world wasn’t going through enough already.
And even though paparazzi for the Daily Mail took photos of her at 8-months pregnant while buying toys for her soon-to-be-born son, no one said a thing. In fact, Kaling admitted to being a little insulted by the report that she was just buying toys for her oldest child.
Following her interview with Colbert, Kaling thanked everyone for their well-wishes on Instagram. “Thanks, everyone, for your kind words about the new addition to my family,” she began before admitting being pregnant during a pandemic was slightly worrisome.
“Being pregnant during the pandemic was a little scary, but it made me appreciate all the doctors, nurses, and medical professionals who continue to work tirelessly giving treatment to those who need it, putting their own lives at risk. Spencer is happy and healthy and his sister is obsessed with him (well, his toys).”

As Mindy Kaling, who refers to herself as a single mom, concluded, “It’s been so fun having him in the house, I almost forget I’m outnumbered now. Love and grateful hugs.”
