This Mom Allegedly Traded Her One-Year-Old Baby for a Used Car

A mother in North Carolina has been indicted after allegedly trading her 1-year-old baby girl for a used car.

The shocking exchange took place when Alice Leann Todd allegedly received a 1992 Plymouth Laser Hatchback from married couple Tina Marie Chavis and Vincenio Mendoza, in exchange for her child.

According to the Thomasville police department, the married couple was also indicted in this horrifying exchange. They have been charged with the unlawful sale, surrender or purchase of a minor.

The investigation began when Tina took the young child to the hospital in connection with a possible allergic reaction. Medical professionals reported bruising on the toddler’s body and child protective services and the police were notified.

Things quickly became suspicious when Tina, who initially claimed to be the child’s mother, backtracked on her story and told authorities that she had adopted the little one. However, she was unable to provide any documentation or further proof and the child was placed with a relative.
