On March 27, one mom in quarantine welcomed two little ones into her life. According to the Mirror, the 27-year-old mom from Chhattisgarh, central India decided to choose names for her children that would help her remember what the times were like when she brought her two little bundles of joy into the world.
As the Daily Star reports, Preeti Verma named her son Covid and her daughter Corona. Preeti admitted that she hopes her children’s names would help them “not to forget the hardships endured during this time.”
However, the mom also suggested that she would be open to changing her children’s names later in life. It’s unclear if the mom is worried that her children may face ridicule as a result of their monikers, or if she had second thoughts after signing their birth certificates.
Preeti’s twins are baby number two and three for her and her husband. She said in an interview with the Daily Star, “The delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore, me and my husband wanted to make the day memorable.”
“Indeed the virus is dangerous and life-threatening but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene and inculcate other good habits,” Preeti continued. “Thus, we thought about these names.”
Mom Names Twins Born During Global Pandemic ‘Covid’ and ‘Corona’
Because Chhattisgarh is on lockdown, Preeti said the ambulance her husband arranged to escort her to the hospital was stopped multiple times by police. However, the mom said that because the authorities could see the condition she was in, they let her go.
“I was wondering what would happen in the hospital as it was midnight, but fortunately doctors and other staff were very cooperative.” Thankfully, Covid and Corona made a successful entrance into the world, even though family and friends were unable to visit them inside the hospital.
