I have a 6-month-old and I’m thinking about having baby #2. Is it too soon?

A mom writes in asking for advice. She has a six-month-old baby and is starting to feel ready to have another child. Growing up, she had a sibling who was four years old and one who was four years younger, which she felt was too far apart. She’d like her kids to be close enough in age to relate to one another better. She wants to know what other moms think is the ideal age gap between siblings.

“I have a six-month-old son and I am already thinking about having another baby. My question is: what is the best age gap between siblings? I want my kids to be close in age because I feel like they will be able to relate to each other more. I had siblings that were 4 years older and 4 years younger than me and it was hard to connect. I am a stay at home mom.”

Most commenters agreed that there’s no “right” answer — there’s only what’s right for you and your family. Some had large age gaps of 10-11 years between siblings; others had as little as a year between them. Most felt that the age gap they had is the age gap they’d want, so in the end the advice for the OP is really: if you’re ready for baby #2, go for it.
