A mom writes in asking for advice. She and her husband have been married for some time now, and they don’t kiss goodnight anymore. When she asked her husband one night, he told her it was too far to move and that she was being ridiculous for wanting a kiss. This mom wonders if goodnight kisses are only during the honeymoon stage, or if couples still kiss goodnight every night. Any advice for this mom?

A member of the community asks:
“How many of you kiss your spouse goodnight before bed? Is that something people still do even after the honeymoon phase is over? I know it’s a crazy question but last night really made me wonder! My husband said goodnight and turned over on his phone. I asked if I could have a kiss (the baby was laying on top of me so I couldn’t exactly move without waking him) and he laughed, and said: “I can’t even remember the last time I kissed you goodnight.” (To be honest, I can’t either.) Then he said “it was too far to move” and I was just a “ridiculous idiot.” He eventually gave me a little peck because my feelings were hurt. But, it just made me curious: if you’ve been married for a while, is kissing goodnight ridiculous or something you still do?”

Advice Summary
Advice for this mom was split roughly in half. Lots of commenters shared their love stories of how they always kiss goodnight even after 20, 30, 40, and 50 years. One commented, “I have been married 56 years. We kiss goodnight, good morning, goodbye, and hello.”
Another group of commenters shared how they don’t kiss their partner or spouse every time they go to sleep, and they still love each other. A commenter shared, “Not everyone kisses goodnight. Just because he didn’t kiss you right away doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. It really depends on the person, not everyone is touchy-feely.” Another commented, “It depends on the couple. We just kiss before leaving for work. We don’t kiss goodnight.”
Others advised to not judge the married couple simply because they aren’t kissing goodnight. One commenter shared, “Don’t judge your marriage on what others do! A goodnight kiss can’t save a bad marriage, and a lack of night kissing can’t ruin a good marriage. Kiss if you can and want too, just say goodnight if you are holding a baby, sick, tired or whatever the case may be.”
