A member of the community asks:
“When should you stop kissing your child on the lips? I’m curious, at what age should a parent stop kissing their child on the lips? I think it’s weird when a kid is older than two, but that’s just me. I wish to know how others feel about it and if this post offends anyone, then I apologize. Thanks for your input!”

Advice Summary
Advice for this mom was very mixed. Some felt that you should stop kissing your baby on the lips early on. One commenter shared, “I think occasionally as a baby is fine, but after about 1 or 2 it just looks weird. We started to give our daughter kisses on the cheek when she was around 2.”
Others think that it is fine to kiss them on the lips until they ask you to stop, or someone is uncomfortable. One said, “It’s a personal preference. My son is 4 and I still do it. I kiss my mother on the lips whenever I see her and we are both grown women. It isn’t weird because we don’t make it weird.” Another agreed and said, “When the kid is uncomfortable with it! I have 3 kids, one of mine likes their forehead and cheek kisses, my middle likes them on the lips kisses and my youngest doesn’t like kisses at all, so we do lots of extra hugs and snuggles.”
However, there were some who felt like you should never kiss a baby on the lips no matter what age. One commented, “I don’t kiss my daughter on lips I never have. I just don’t think it’s appropriate, but I have no judgment to those who do!” Another agreed, “I never did either. I always kissed them on their chubby checks” while another said, “I’ve never done mouth kisses, but mostly because I never wanted the slobber. Both my kids get cheek and forehead kisses.”
