Mom Kaitlin Burge shared a heartbreaking photo in 2019 that went viral of her toddler battling cancer.
Kaitlin’s son, Beckett, at the time, was battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia. But now, the Texan mom is proud to announce a very happy update.

“One thing they don’t tell you about childhood cancer is that it affects the entire family. You always hear about the financial and medical struggles, but how often do you hear about the struggles families with other children face? To some, this may be hard to see and read,” the post began.
“My two kids, 15 months apart, went from playing in school and at home together to sitting in a cold hospital room together. My then 4 year-year-old watched her brother go from an ambulance to the ICU. She watched a dozen doctors throw a mask over his face, poke and prod him with needles, pump a dozen medications through his body, all while he laid there helplessly. She wasn’t sure what was happening. All she knew was that something was wrong with her brother, her best friend,” the post read in part.
“Vomiting between play sessions. Waking up to throw up. Standing by her brother’s side and rubbing his back while he gets sick. Going from 30 lbs to 20 lbs. This is childhood cancer. Take it or leave it.”
Two years since the heartbreaking post, Beckett, 6, is now cancer-free. He received his last treatment in August and had his port removed last week. But the first-grader and his sister Aubrey, 7, are still as close as ever.

“They walk to and home from school together. Even though they each have their own rooms, they sleep together,” Kaitlin shared. “Those two have an unbreakable bond. She’s often the first person he goes to when he needs help with something. I’m like, ‘What the heck? I’m right over here!'”
Recently, when Beckett was having a tough day at school, his teacher brought him to Aubrey.
“She knows exactly how to comfort him,” Kaitlin explained. “Aubrey is very motherly. She knows what to do.”
The Burge family, which includes Kaitlin and her husband, Matthew, are also parents to their 3-year-old daughter, Chandler. They plan to celebrate Beckett’s good news with a trip to the beach.
