Nick Carter Records Tribute Song and Music Video for Late Brother Aaron Carter, Who Passed Away in November

On January 11, Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter released a tribute song for his late brother, Aaron Carter – who passed away on November 5, 2022, at the age of 34. The song perfectly captures the pain and grief Nick felt after learning of his brother’s death, something many people can relate to.

The song starts with Nick singing, “Felt like we’ve been through some wars together / Nobody else can understand / Weeks and many nightmares to remember / But that was real life back then.” He was talking about his childhood with Aaron – which was spent with his three sisters, including Aaron’s twin sister.

“Always hoped your tomorrow / Would be better than the days before / I hoped you’d find your road to follow / To a place you were happy in this world,” the song continued. Nick was alluding to his brother’s past struggles with mental health, addiction, and substance abuse – which ultimately led to his death.

The chorus is what really hits hard, especially for those that have a loved one struggling with mental health and/or substance abuse. He expresses how hard it can be to love someone that constantly puts themselves in harm’s way, but adds that his love for his brother will never stop – an emotional lyric.

“Cause it hurts to love you but I love you still / Miss you with all my heart, you know I’ll always will / And always prayed for peace somehow your soul could feel / You know it hurts to love you but I love you still,” Nick Carter sang in the chorus of his newest song, ‘Hurts To Love You,’ which pays tribute to his brother.

Most of the rest of the song repeats those same lyrics over and over, but Nick also adds, “It’s hard to let go of the anger / I know for me it took some time / Sometimes the darkness lasts forever / Feels like the light won’t ever shine,” in the second verse – talking of the fact that he won’t ever see his brother again.

The song – ‘Hurts To Love You’ by Nick Carter – is available on all streaming platforms and a music video was released via Vevo on YouTube on January 12. The song has been streamed more than 150,000 times on Spotify over the past two weeks and the music video has been seen more than 400,000 times.

Nick Carter Opens Up About Losing His Brother

Nick Carter has been open about his brother’s death, including a heartfelt message on January 11th as he announced the song’s release on Instagram. “We all have someone in our lives that no matter what they do and how bad it hurts you still love them. So I worked it out the best way I know how,” he wrote.

He continued that message in the YouTube caption. “In my 30-year career, this is my most personal record to date. A story of unconditional love and heartbreak,” he wrote. You can tell Nick, along with the rest of his family, took Aaron’s death very hard and are still learning to cope with it – but they’ll always love him.

In an Instagram post on November 6, 2022 – the day after his brother died – Nick Carter shared a few photos of them through the years. My heart is broken. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded,” the pop singer wrote in the caption.

“I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed. Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here,” he added.
