Olivia Newton-John’s Daughter Reveals the Last Words She Uttered to Her Before Her Passing

Olivia Newton-John’s only child Chloe Lattanzi is opening up about her mother’s last moments on earth before she passed away in August 2022.

In a new interview with Koda Kotb, Lattanzi revealed the last words her mother spoke to her and how Newton-John had her wits about her until she could no longer speak.

“The last words she could say to me was, ‘My sunshine,” Lattanzi told Today. “And right before she lost her ability to speak, she was making jokes.”

As Mamas Uncut previously reported, the legendary actress and star of the original Grease passed away after a decades-long battle with breast cancer. She was 73 years old.

“I love my mom more than anything,” she said while choking up. “She’s my mama, you know? She’s not Olivia Newton-John to me, but I’m so glad that she was Olivia Newton-John for so many people.”

And in her time of grief, Lattanzi admits that it was her mom’s massive fan base that has helped her through some of her darkest moments since losing her mom six months ago.  “It actually has been a life raft. It has felt like a big hug from the universe. And I’m very grateful for all of the people who reached out to us and extended their heart and their connection.”

Lattanzi’s interview comes on the same day Newton-John’s version of Jolene was released to the world. Her duet with Dolly Parton was one of the last songs Newton-John recorded before her passing.

Olivia’s husband, John Easterling, also accompanied Lattanzi during the interview, revealing that he still speaks out loud to his late wife. “Every day, I miss Olivia terribly. And yet every day, I’m really super grateful that I had 15 wonderful years with this extraordinary human being.”

The couple married in 2008. Easterling says Olivia was his true soulmate.

Since her passing, her family and her closest friends, including her beloved co-stars, have issued statements about just how much Newton-John will be missed.

One of those co-stars was Stockard Channing. Channing, if you don’t recall, is the actress who played Rizzo opposite Newton-John.

“I don’t know if I’ve known a lovelier human being,” Channing told People via an exclusive statement. “Olivia was the essence of summer – her sunniness, her warmth, and her grace are what always comes to mind when I think of her. I will miss her enormously.”

Alongside Channing, Didi Conn, who played Frenchy, also issued a statement. According to Conn, who remained a lifelong friend to Newton-John revealed that Olivia couldn’t walk during her final days.

“She told me that her health was, you know, she wasn’t walking anymore, and she had full-time care, but her husband John and her daughter Chloe were there all the time, and she told me that they were just so hopelessly devoted.”

Conn then shared the final message exchange she had with Olivia. “Last time I was in contact with Olivia was by text, and I said, ‘I hope you know you’re in my heart, always,'” she told The Mirror. “And she wrote back, ‘And you are in mine.’ That was our last message on July 5th. Olivia’s death feels so personal to me and so many other people because she cared so much. Her heart was so big.”

John Travolta also issued an extremely emotional statement following Olivia’s passing. “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road, and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John,” the actor wrote alongside a photo of Newton-John.
