In a new update shared By Peyton Hillis’s girlfriend, the former NFL player’s recovery is moving in the right direction. In a statement issued on January 11, Hillis’s girlfriend Angela Cole took to social media to say he is a “hero” who still has a long recovery ahead of him.
Thankfully, though, “Peyton is off the ventilator and is on the road to recovery,” she wrote on Instagram, adding, ” So proud of this man and so incredibly grateful for family and this incredible hospital. […] Please continue to pray for he’s still got a ways ahead of him, but thank you for all of your prayers and love, and support thus far. It truly makes all the difference. Today was a good day.”
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, back in 2015, Peyton Hillis retired from the NFL. He was best known for his college performance with the Arkansas Razorbacks and his run with the Cleveland Browns.
However, on January 6, it was revealed that Hillis has since been admitted to the ICU where he remains unconscious.
Former NFL Star Peyton Hillis Remains Unconcious After Heroic Efforts Saved His Children’s Lives
According to reports, Hillis’ hospitalization comes after a swimming incident involving his children. On Thursday, January 5, Hillis and his family were in Pensacola, Florida when the former football star became a hero, saving his children from drowning.
As TMZ reports, Hillis’ children are safe and in good health. However, he was airlifted from the scene to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition.
In a Facebook Post shared by Hillis’ uncle, Hillis is receiving treatments for his lungs and kidneys. “He’s still in intensive care and having some problems with his kidneys and his lungs but the doctors say he is improving,” the post reads.
Greg Hillis continued, writing, “I just wanted to let everyone know on Razorback Nation that Peyton is doing better.” He then concluded the statement by saying, “I just wanted to head off any rumors that may be started. I’m sure he would want everyone to know that he appreciates all of the prayers thrown up on his behalf!!!”
Peyton shared two children with his ex-wife, Amanda. Before retiring from the NFL, Willis played in the league for seven seasons running for a total of 2,832 rushing yards, acquiring 1,050 receiving yards, and scoring 26 touchdowns.
This story is still developing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Willis family as Peyton continues to fight to get better.
