President Biden Accidentally Reveals That He’ll Deliver Former President Jimmy Carter’s Eulogy When He Passes

President Biden is known for letting things slip in his speeches – something we got a taste of during his recent visit to Rancho Sante Fe, CA. He was speaking about a trip he and First Lady Jill Biden took to Plains, Georgia, where he sat down with former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter.

In his speech, which took place at a fundraiser, he accidentally revealed that he was asked to deliver the former President’s eulogy when he passes. “He asked me to do his eulogy – excuse me I shouldn’t say that,” said Biden. He quickly caught the mishap, but not before the several dozen in attendance heard it.

President Biden also gave a brief update on Jimmy Carter’s health – he is spending his last days at home under hospice care. “I spent time with Jimmy Carter and it’s finally caught up with him. But they found a way to keep him going for a lot longer than they anticipated because they found a breakthrough,” he said.

Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States, serving one term between 1977 and 1981. His longtime friend, Joe Biden, has stayed by his side throughout the length of his career. At the time of Carter’s presidential run, Biden was a Delaware Senator and was the first senator to endorse Carter.

While many Democratic candidates had distanced themselves from Jimmy Carter in the decades after his term came to an end – he was defeated by Ronald Reagan – Biden was one of the few that weren’t afraid to maintain a relationship with him. With Biden’s help, Carter is now viewed in a much better light in D.C..

A lot of that has to do with his humanitarian work through The Carter Center – an organization founded by Carter and his wife in 1982. It’s committed to ‘human rights and the alleviation of human suffering,’ and ‘seeks to prevent and resolve conflicts, enhance freedom and democracy, and improve health.’

Former President Carter ended up receiving a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts through the Center. Five years later, he wrote an autobiography – titled Beyond the White House: Waging Peace, Fighting Disease, Building Hope – to commemorate the work the Center has done in its first 25 years.

President Biden Reveals Breakthrough in Carter’s Cancer Recovery

Like we mentioned above, President Biden also touched on Jimmy Carter’s health as he continues his battle with cancer. His health started to decline in 2015, when he had surgery to remove a small mass in his liver. A little more than a week later, Carter revealed he had metastatic cancer in his brain and lungs.

Later that year, Carter announced he had no more signs of cancer, which was followed by several years of fairly good health. In 2019, he struggled with several injuries – broken hip, forehead injury, black eye, and minor pelvic fracture – due to several falls at his home. He required several surgeries to treat them.

His most recent update came on February 18, 2023, when he announced that he’ll “spend his remaining time at home with his family” after a series of hospital visits. Under hospice care, it’s clear that his health is worsening and his time is limited. The 98-year-old is the longest-living President in United States’ history.

When Jimmy Carter does pass, he’ll have a state funeral in Washington D.C. and a more private funeral and official burial in his hometown of Plains, Georgia – where he currently lives. And now, according to Biden’s mishap, we know that President Biden will be the one to deliver the 39th President’s eulogy.
