Prince Harry is officially over the British press and their obsession with his wife, Meghan Markle. The British tabloids are known to have a hot and cold relationship with the Royal family, but Harry says the treatment Meghan has received is similar to the way the tabloids treated his mother, Princess Diana, who was infamously hounded by paparazzi.

The Duke of Sussex announced in a statement on October 1st that they would be pursuing legal remedies for the “relentless propaganda” disseminated by various media outlets.
According to the “Statement by His Royal Highness Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex,” Harry expressed concern about the attacks on his wife.
Harry is pointed in his criticism, “Unfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences — a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son.”
He acknowledges that he’s been, “a silent witness to her private suffering for too long. To stand back and do nothing would be contrary to everything we believe in.”
The timing is not coincidental, the couple is currently traveling in Africa working to cement Princess Diana’s humanitarian legacy.
The statement cautions, “I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”
As Harry visited Angola, walking the same street where the iconic photo of his mother was taken 22 years before, it’s only fitting that the Duke would feel a special connection to his mother and her work.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are ready for a legal fight.
A Sussex’s legal representative stated, “We have initiated legal proceedings against the Mail on Sunday, and its parent company Associated Newspapers, over the intrusive and unlawful publication of a private letter written by the Duchess of Sussex, which is part of a campaign by this media group to publish false and deliberately derogatory stories about her, as well as her husband. Given the refusal of Associated Newspapers to resolve this issue satisfactorily, we have issued proceedings to redress this breach of privacy, infringement of copyright and the aforementioned media agenda.”
This comes after the publication shared parts of a private letter Meghan had written to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, pleading with him to, ironically, stop talking to the press. The letter was very personal and should have remained private.
In a time that should be filled with happiness and hope for their child, the couple is instead, having to deal with relentless tabloid gossip.
This young couple may have power, wealth, and titles, but that does not mean they’re not entitled to some privacy and a little human decency. You would think the British press would have learned their lesson after Harry’s mother tragically died while fleeing from paparazzi.
The announcement of the lawsuit came as something of a surprise to the press following the couple on their tour and overshadowed the remaining few events.
Let’s hope that the legal action they’ve undertaken will make a difference this time around and afford the couple the solitude they deserve.
The Duke of Sussex appreciates and thanks the public for their support.
The statement ends with gratitude for their supporters, “We thank you, the public, for your continued support. It is hugely appreciated. Although it may not seem like it, we really need it.”
They can count on us for some support! We think Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are humans just like the rest of us. Some scrutiny is fine, they’re royals after all, but there must be limits.
