Prince William Makes First Personal Statement Following Prince Philip’s Passing, Thanks Him For Being an Example

Three days after his grandfather’s passing, Prince William took to Instagram to share a photo of Prince Philip and his oldest son, Prince George. The great-grandfather, great-grandson duo were sitting atop what appears to be a horse-drawn carriage as Philip steered and George read him a book.

In the caption, William revealed that the photo was taken by his wife, Kate Middleton. He also revealed what a great man his grandfather was.

Prince William Remembers Prince Philip in First Personal Statement Following His Passing

“My grandfather’s century of life was defined by service – to his country and Commonwealth, to his wife and Queen, and to our family,” William wrote. He then went on to say how lucky he was to have Prince Philip as a grandfather.

“I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life – both through good times and the hardest days. I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her.”

William also admitted that he is forever grateful that his three children have had so many years with Philip as well. “I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humor!”

The Prince concluded his first personal statement since Philip’s passing by saying, “My grandfather was an extraordinary man and part of an extraordinary generation. Catherine and I will continue to do what he would have wanted and will support The Queen in the years ahead.”

“I will miss my Grandpa,” William wrote. “But I know he would want us to get on with the job.” Prince Philip passed away at the age of 99 on April 9. It was later reported that he went peacefully and that he would be laid to rest on April 17.

Among those at the funeral will be William’s brother, Harry, albeit without his own bride, Meghan Markle, who was instructed by her doctors to stay home due to the fact that she’s pregnant. As Mamas Uncut reported, Prince Harry has also issued a personal statement.
