When Lisa Marie Presley passed away on January 12, the entire Presley family – including her mother, Priscilla Presley, and daughter, Riley Keough – was both shocked and confused at the timing of it all. 10 days later, the family honored the life and legacy of Lisa Marie with a memorial service at Graceland.
While the family came together to begin the grieving and mourning process, things took a wild turn for the worse a few days after the memorial when Priscilla filed a petition in court that questioned the validity and authenticity of a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie’s trust, which ultimately gave control of the trust to Riley.
Priscilla, who used to have control of the trust, was shocked when she learned of the amendment that replaced her with Riley – arguing she was never notified of the amendment before Lisa Marie’s death. Priscilla filed the petition on January 25, sparking a months-long legal battle between her and Riley.
That legal battle recently came to an end when Riley Keough and her grandmother, Priscilla Presley, came to an agreement that saw Riley remain the sole trustee – while Priscilla walked away with ‘millions of dollars.’ Both sides were reportedly happy and relieved to put the family drama in the rear-view mirror.
Priscilla didn’t leave court empty-handed, but she didn’t get everything she wanted. A source close to the situation told TMZ on Thursday that Priscilla Presley requested to be buried next to her ex-husband, Elvis Presley, at the Graceland mansion – where he was laid to rest on August 18, 1977 – when she passes.
That request was denied by the family and Priscilla didn’t seem to fight it beyond that – ultimately backing down from that request ‘without much fight.’ Elvis is buried in the Meditation Garden alongside his mother, Gladys Presley, his father, Vernon Presley, and his paternal grandmother, Minnie May Presley.
Lisa Marie Presley was also buried in the Meditation Garden at the Graceland mansion – alongside her son, Benjamin Keough, who died of suicide in 2020. He was listed as a co-trustee on Lisa Marie’s trust, while her other two daughters – twins Harper Vivienne Ann and Finley Aaron Love – are beneficiaries.
Priscilla Presley Releases Statement Regarding Burial Site
Now that the family drama has been laid to rest, the family can go back to grieving and mourning the loss of Lisa Marie Presley in peace – honoring the life and legacy of the King of Rock ‘n Roll’s only daughter. And while Priscilla won’t be buried next to Elvis, she still dreams of being buried by the rest of her family.
“Although I don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon. It is my family’s and my wish for me to be laid to rest with my daughter and the love of my life when that time comes. We appreciate the love from all of the fans,” Priscilla Presley said in a statement, which was published by TMZ on Thursday (May 18).
