Prince Harry’s Daughter May Be Queen Elizabeth’s Namesake, But the Queen May Out Shine Her on Her 1st Birthday

Last year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their second child into the world, a daughter they named Lilibet Diana. Lilibet is the nickname her father gave her and the name her late husband, Prince Phillip, affectionately called her.

Now, on June 4, 2022, Lilibet is set to celebrate her first birthday but it is also the celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne. It has been revealed that started June 2, the United Kingdom will begin its three-day-long celebration in honor of the monumental occasion.

On February 6, 1952, Queen Elizabeth was just 25 years old when she assumed the throne as the Queen of England after her father’s sudden passing. However, it wasn’t until June 2, 1953, that the coronation occurred at Westminster Abbey.

The 16-month delay was so that the Queen could properly mourn her beloved father. The celebration will last until June 5.

According to People, on June 4, Lilibet’s 1st birthday, the Queen is expected to attend Derby at Epsom Down and a concert called Platinum Party at the Palace which will be broadcasted live from Buckingham Palace.

While Queen Elizabeth has met Lilibet on video chat, she has yet to meet her great-grandchild in person. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed Lilibet into the world after moving from the U.K. to America.

As People reports, while the 70th year of his grandmother being queen is a massive historical moment, it remains unclear if Prince Harry or his family will join the royal family in the celebration.

As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Harry and Meghan’s name choice for their little girl came with some controversy at first. A report suggested that “the Queen was not asked by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex about naming their daughter Lilibet.”

However, a spokesperson for Meghan and Harry says that’s absolutely false. As the spokesperson for the newly-minted parents of two said, “the monarch was the first family member the duke had called.”

“The duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement – in fact, his grandmother was the first family member he called,” the spokesperson revealed. “During that conversation, he shared their hopes of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”

It seems that any reservations about the decision to name their daughter after her great-grandmother have passed.
