A world in which Queen Elizabeth II does not reign as monarch is hard to imagine as she has been on the throne for nearly 70 years, but the royal has been making moves following the death of her husband Prince Philip to ensure Prince Charles‘ transition to the seat.
Although a recent poll of the public shows a preference for Prince William and Kate Middleton to assume power, it’s unlikely the Queen would skip over her own son. After Prince Philip’s passing, she has been taking steps to establish King Charles’ reign.
Prince Charles Has Reportedly Had Explicit Conversations In Recent Days About Assuming His Role as King with the Queen and with Philip Before His Death.
New reporting from The Sun revealed that Prince Charles, Duke of Wales, had a conversation with his father before he passed about the coming months and has taken on the official designation as Her Majesty’s “Consort” moving forward.
We should expect to see Prince Charles accompanying his mother to royal engagements like the state opening of Parliament.
“It is a clear signal that the Queen does not want the crown to skip a generation and that Prince Charles will start taking on an even bigger role in royal life,” a source told the outlet.
“There will be a visible show of support for the Queen from senior members of the family at future events, and the opening of Parliament is no exception,” the insider explained to The Sun. “The Queen has been incredibly stoic throughout the last few weeks, but the family are determined to rally round and support her. Charles will be at the forefront of those efforts as heir.”
Queen Elizabeth, at 95-years-old, will need to support her son’s ascension, and doing so while polling on the monarch is at an all-time high makes it a politically advantageous time to start the process.
By giving the Prince royal duties now, she sets up her son to be an experienced and supported leader.
As any royal-watcher knows the Queen is nothing if not efficient. While the family is still in mourning, it’s no surprise that they are already preparing for their next chapter as the Royal British Family.
