Actor Rachel Bloom and husband, writer Dan Gregor welcomed their daughter into the world with the backdrop of a National Emergency adding even more stress to the situation. Bloom describes the situation as an “emotionally intense week” for both herself and her husband.
The happy news was shared in an Instagram post on Bloom’s account. We don’t have a ton of details like the baby’s name or actual date of birth, but we expect to find that out in short order.
Rachel Bloom has something to smile about after her daughter arrived this week.
Bloom shared the most tender image of herself and her newborn snuggled up together. She captioned the post, “She’s here. She’s home.”
“Having a baby in the NICU during a pandemic while a dear friend was in the hospital 3,000 miles away made this by far the most emotionally intense week of mine and Gregor’s lives,” she wrote.
We can only imagine. So many expecting mothers are worried about giving birth right now.
Bloom made sure to thank the ‘lovely’ doctors and nurses for all the good they do.
The creator and star of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend continued her post writing, “As the lovely doctors and nurses helped my daughter get some fluid out of her lungs, we watched the maternity ward around us change hourly to prepare for the upcoming COVID storm. The whole family is now home safe and I am just so grateful to all of our medical workers.”
“From those in our NICUs to those directly helping COVID patients like Adam [Schelsinger], they are sacrificing so much to fight on the front lines of this war. Thank you thank you thank you.”

As you might expect, she slipped in a little humor before concluding the post.
“Brb, gonna go get to know the person who came out of my vagina,” she joked at the end. We’re excited for her to do so!
Bloom announced her pregnancy back in September (which seems like a century ago) after winning an Emmy at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
The announcement at the Emmy’s was a novel way to let the world know the news.
She was asked about what her plans were next and Bloom replied, “More fun stuff. I have a tour right now called, ‘What Am I Going To Do with My Life Now?’ because the question I get asked is, what are you going to do with your life now? Hopefully, write more Emmy-winning songs” as well.
“And also, I’m pregnant! So that’s what’s next for me,” she admitted and the room erupted in applause.
Unfortunately, bad news followed her birth announcement.
Less than 24 hours after Bloom’s announcement and post on Instagram, news broke that collaborator and musical genius Adam Schlesinger had passed away from complications of COVID-19. The musician wrote over 157 songs for Bloom’s show. He also cofounded the band Fountains of Wayne.
In a candid Instagram post, Bloom shared “I have so much to say about Adam Schlesinger that I am at a complete loss for words. He is irreplaceable.”
We’re living in uncertain times but the world keeps turning.
It’s sad news for many as Schlesinger was beloved by Bloom and many others who worked on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. But, at this moment, we’re hopeful of the new lives, talents, and joys that are still being brought into the world.
Bloom’s newborn baby daughter is a precious reminder that among all the sad stories that come out daily there are still glimmers of hope. We’re excited for her and the stories she will inspire Bloom to tell.
