After news broke of a devastating accident that took place on the farm owned by The Pioneer Woman star and her husband Ladd Drummond, Ree Drummond is opening up about how her husband and nephew are doing since being involved in the collision.
According to reports, Ladd and their nephew Caleb were involved in a collision while responding to a burning fire near their farm. Ree revealed that it was the 11th fire her husband and her nephew had to fight since November.

According to People, both Ladd and Caleb were driving Himmat Fire Trucks when the high winds, gravel road, and decreased visibility made for a dangerous combination. The uncle and nephew hit each other head-on as they raced to fight the fire.
According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, neither Ladd nor Caleb were wearing seatbelts. Caleb was thrown roughly 70 feet from impact.
However, in her update, Ree revealed that Ladd had initially refused medical attention following the accident when first responders arrived on the scene.
“This was partly because he wanted the paramedics to focus on Caleb, partly because he was still a little stunned by the accident, and partly because cowboys don’t like to admit when they’re hurt,” she wrote on her blog.
While Caleb was transported to the hospital in the ambulance, Ladd followed closely, driving himself to the hospital in his own truck. Ree said her husband called her while they were on their way, and it wasn’t long after that call that she was at the hospital as well.
Sadly, it was later revealed that Ladd wasn’t as okay as he claimed to be. In fact, the farmer had broken his neck in two places. “Evidently, one of the two fractures was very close to being catastrophic,” Ree admitted.
Ladd had to undergo surgery where he had multiple rods and other hardware placed in his neck to stabilize the fracture.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Ladd and Ree’s daughter Alex got engaged in August of 2020. Alex and her fiancé are scheduled to be married on May 1.
“He will have to wear a neck brace for several weeks to let the other fracture heal, and the girls and I will bling out the brace for Alex’s wedding…but we are just grateful he will be here for Alex’s wedding” Ree admitted.
As far as Caleb’s injuries, he sustained some broken ribs and a major concussion. Thankfully, both he and Ladd are now home as they continue to make a full recovery.
“For both Caleb and Ladd to be okay—injured, yes, but fixable—after seeing the condition of their trucks makes me not want to spend one second complaining.” Ree also thanked her fans for reaching out and offering their prayers and well wishes for their speedy recovery.
“I can’t tell you how much it means to all of us, and I’ll never, ever forget it!”
