On May 19th, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcomed their first child into this world. While they’ve revealed the sex of the baby, fans have yet to see a photo of the baby or learn of the baby’s name – leaving many to wonder what the hold-up is. In an interview with the Washington Post, Rihanna gave an explanation.
“We just didn’t get around to it yet, really. We’ve just been living. But I guess there’s a certain freedom that comes with kind of just like getting it out there,” she said in the interview. While they haven’t shared many details about their little one, they plan on introducing their son to their fans at some point in the future.
Rumors about Rihanna and A$AP Rocky dating have been swirling since 2013, but it wasn’t until May 19, 2021, that the couple finally went official – they had been dating as early as January 2020. Two years later, the couple announced they were expecting their first child in January 2022 and gave birth in May.

Entertainment Tonight recently had an exclusive interview with Rihanna at the premiere of Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4, which is being released on November 9th. They talked a lot about her newest fashion show, but that didn’t stop Rihanna from discussing some of her favorite parts about being a new mother.
“Oh my god, the mornings, like, seeing his morning face! Seeing a baby with, like, little bags and waking up and they’re just, like, startled. They’re trying to figure out where they’re at. It’s the cutest, it’s my favorite part of the day,” said Rihanna to ET’s Rachel Smith. The 34-year-old couldn’t help but smile.
She’s cherishing every little moment she spends with her son, adding that she frequently sings and ‘freestyles’ to the ‘happy baby.’ And now that she’s a mother, her creative juices are flowing and she already has plans to create a clothing collection for babies – though she didn’t specify a timetable.
Not long after the baby was born, A$AP Rocky opened up about his vision and goals as a father “I hope to raise open-minded children. Not people who discriminate. And I’m not trying to describe a saint, but realistically, I just want a cool child with cool parents,” he said in an interview with Dazed & Confused.
Outside of Being a Mother, Rihanna Has Been Keeping Busy
While the newborn is keeping Rihanna more than busy – and distracted – it doesn’t seem to be having an impact on her productivity. As we mentioned above, she’s set to premiere her Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4 – an annual fashion runway show experience that brings a lot of Rihanna’s ideas and visions to life.
That’s not all the singer has planned, either. She recently released a new single Lift Me Up – the leading track on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. The music video was released on October 28th on her official Youtube page. It’s her first single in six years and marks her solo return to music.
If that’s not enough to keep Rihanna fans excited, the NFL announced in late September that she will headline the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. She’s one of the greatest performers of her generation, so we can expect her to put on quite a show for all her fans.
