A$AP Rocky and Rihanna Pay Tribute to Wu-Tang Clan With Name of First Child

For the past 12 months, fans have been patiently waiting for Rihanna and A$AP Rocky to reveal the name of their first child – a son who was born on May 13, 2022. A simple search on Google would’ve told you his name was Noah Mayers, but neither the mother or father had confirmed that name to be true.

On May 11, just two days before the little boy’s first birthday, the Daily Mail published an article that revealed the baby’s name for the first time. According to his certificate of live birth, the parents named him RZA Athelston Mayers – a name they’ve been secretly hinting at on several occasions over the past year.

The baby boy’s first name is inspired by rapper RZA (born Robert Fitzgerald Diggs) – one of the most famous members and the de facto leader of the Wu-Tang Clan, a rap group that rose to fame in the 1990s. The baby boy also shares a middle name with A$AP Rocky (born Rakim Athelaston Mayers).

Naming their son after a rapper follows a tradition in A$AP Rocky’s family – his mother named him after Rakim, one of the most influential hip hop artists of all-time. In fact, A$AP Rocky’s mother once met Rakim in the streets of Harlem – he was sitting in his car at a red light when she ran up to meet him.

“She says can ‘you sign this for me?’ I never say no. I say ‘what’s him name?’ Rakim. I’m like word? She’s like Rakim. I sign the joint, I remember that day, cause that was the first time hearing someone named their son after me. Like I said, humbling experience,” Rakim said of the encounter in a 2019 interview

Now that we know what Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have named their first child, we’re finally seeing that the answer has been right in front of our eyes this whole time – on several occasions. On April 5, Rihanna was seen holding her child while leaving a restaurant – she happened to be wearing a Wu-Tang shirt.

In much more obvious fashion, the 35-year-old mother was seen in August 2022 wearing a RZA shirt in New York City, just three months after she gave birth to the little boy. Rihanna and RZA also came close to working with one another on a movie in 2008, but the film idea never came to fruition – unfortunately.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky Preparing for Baby No. 2

During her Super Bowl LVII halftime performance, Rihanna revealed her baby bump and later announced that she and A$AP Rocky are expecting their second child – it was confirmed in a cover story by British Vogue. Her baby bump has continued to grow over the past few months as they prepare for baby No. 2.

While it’s unclear if she’ll keep her second child’s name a secret, fans are already searching for clues and hints in the family’s recent appearances – one fan pointed out that it might be a girl after seeing Rihanna shopping for pink baby clothes, but others speculated she was buying clothes for someone else’s baby.

More recently, Rihanna compared the two pregnancies in a brief interview with Entertainment Tonight at the 2023 Met Gala – which she attended with her hubby. “No cravings. Tons of nausea. Everything’s different, but I’m enjoying it,’ she said of her second experience with pregnancy – she’s due this summer.

She also spoke highly of her son, RZA. “I’m in love. I’m obsessed and I don’t even feel guilty about it. [He’s] growing big. Beautiful, happy baby,” she said. I’m sure we’ll learn more information about the incoming baby soon, but the couple have a way of keeping things under wraps for as long as possible.
