During a recent Good Morning America episode, host Robin Roberts was joined by motivational speaker Gabby Bernstein. The two were discussing intentions for the new year when Bernstein asked Roberts what she’s a ‘yes’ for in 2023. At first, Roberts seemed nervous and hesitant to give a response.
While Bernstein offered to come back to her to give her some time to think, Roberts interjected and explained that she was only hesitant because she ‘hasn’t said it out loud yet’ – and that’s when she said it. “I’m saying yes to marriage. I’m saying yes to marriage. We’re getting married this year,” she revealed.
It was quite a big moment for Robin Roberts, who has been with her girlfriend Amber Laign for nearly two decades now. After she revealed her 2023 intentions, she immediately started fanning herself with her notes – as anyone would do after making a big personal announcement on live national television.

“It was something we had talked about, but we had put it off – she became ill – but, it was just, it is saying yes to that, and that next chapter,” Robin Roberts explained, appearing as if a large weight had been lifted off her shoulders. “You’re claiming it,” responded Gabby Bernstein, who motivated Roberts to embrace it.
Roberts shared the moment on her Instagram account on January 2nd. “Saying YES to marriage in 2023! Always a joy to chat with @gabbybernstein…she joined us LIVE with a manifestation challenge to realize your dreams in the new year. #marriage #manifestation #loveislove,” she wrote in the caption.
Robin Roberts has enjoyed an incredible career, which included 15 years as a sportscaster for ESPN between 1990 and 2005. At that point, she was named a co-anchor on Good Morning America and began a relationship with massage therapist Amber Laign. The couple has been happily together ever since.
Of course, they’ve faced several life setbacks in that time. For example, Robin Roberts was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and went through eight chemotherapy treatments, just to be diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) four years later. Most recently, Laign was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Robin Roberts Opens Up About Laign’s Battle With Breast Cancer
Robin Roberts understands the pain and suffering that comes with being diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoing breast cancer treatment. Now, it’s something she gets to share with the love of her life. Roberts first revealed her partner’s diagnosis early last year and has been vocal about it ever since.
“My sweet Amber wanted me to tell you something that she’s been facing. At the end of last year, Amber was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery last month and this morning will begin chemotherapy. Thankfully, the prognosis is good,” said Robin Roberts in a touching video posted to Twitter at the time.
On July 18, 2022, Roberts shared another video on Twitter, this time confirming Laign had completed radiation and can finally ‘spend time now in our happy place.’ Laign was doing her ‘happy dance’ in the video, right after ringing the celebratory bell at the treatment center. It was quite an uplifting moment.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she opened up about how she barely shed a tear during her own treatments but is a walking puddle anytime she thinks about Amber having to go through it. Now, that’s what I call love and that’s why everyone’s so happy that the two will soon be married!
