Bruce Willis and Demi Moore Set to Become Grandparents for the First Time After Daughter, Rumer Willis, Announces Pregnancy

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore are making the transition from parents to grandparents after their eldest daughter, Rumer Willis, announced she was pregnant for the first time. It’s the first grandchild for Willis and Moore, who are excited to enter a new era of their lives – one they’ve been waiting on for a while.

Rumer and her boyfriend, Derek Richard Thomas, shared the news in a joint Instagram post – there was no text in the caption, but there was a single ‘seedling’ emoji. The post included three photos, all of which featured Rumer’s baby bump and two of which featured Derek – they appear excited for parenthood.

Not much is known about the relationship between the two – regarding when it started and how long they’ve been together. Some reports suggest they started dating in 2020, but they didn’t confirm as much until recently – they’ve increasingly become more love-dovey on social media, starting in May 2022.

Their relationship has been rather brief, but Rumer and Derek are excited about the prospect of building a family. Derek described his love for Rumer in a birthday post on Instagram. “In the short time we’ve been together you have filled my life with joy and peace. Everything is just so easy with you,” he wrote.

In fact, Rumer isn’t the only one excited about the baby – it’s something her father has been vocal about with his daughter over the past few years. Roughly two years ago, Rumer explained as much and revealed how badly her father wants a grandson – joking about there being too many girls in the family.

“Even my dad puts pressure on me and he is so out of even who I’m dating at all, but he, over the quarantine was like, ‘So I’d like for you to have a son because I need some male energy in this group,’” said Rumer in a 2020 interview, adding that he has five daughters, an ex-wife, and a wife to deal with.

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore gave birth to Rumer Willis on August 16, 1988 – the former couple had two other daughters named Scout and Tallulah in 1991 and 1994, respectively. Willis and Moore separated in 1998 and divorced in 2000, but are still close. Willis has two other daughters with his new wife, Emma Heming.

Rumer Willis Makes the Announcement at the Perfect Time

Rumer Willis announcing her pregnancy comes at the perfect time. Not only is it almost Christmas – which is exciting in its own right – but it comes at a time when her father could use some uplifting news. While he’s in good spirits, the former actor was forced to step away from his career earlier this year.

Bruce was diagnosed with aphasia – a language disorder that impacts the way you communicate with others – in 2015 following his second stroke. Earlier this year, in March, Bruce’s family announced he would be stepping away from his acting career – which began in 1978 – as a result of the disorder.

“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him,” the family said in the announcement.

Demi Moore recently shared a photo of her, Bruce, their three children, his current wife, and their two children on Instagram – they got together earlier this month for a blended family dinner. Despite being divorced, the two families are extremely close and share a loving and caring relationship with each other.
