We’re all born naked and the rest is drag, right? We’ve all been blessed with a decade of TV drag queen competing for the crown for over a decade now and through the years we’ve seen a number of drag queens who have made us laugh, cry, and cheer. They’re quotable, clever, and full of charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent. So, it should come as no surprise that Rupaul’s Drag Race has inspired thousands of tattoos.
From portraits of queens to viral one-liners, there is no shortage of inspiration for tattoos inspired by the iconic reality TV competition. RuPaul is a genius for recognizing that (mostly) gay men dressed as women make for some of the best TV ever made. There is glamour and camp and beauty and real skill on display. “Because reading is what?” and “The library is open” are beloved sayings that let viewers of Drag Race know they’re in for plenty of shade and a real treat. The reading challenge is always a blast because you get to see which queens are the sauciest. This tattoo is a loving homage to the challenge that includes a signature glasses used to “read” with.
Valentina is, unquestionably, one of the most beautiful queens to ever grace the stage of RuPaul’s Drag Race. One of her most iconic moments came at a tough time for the contestant. When she was told to “lip sync for your life!” she appeared with a mask to cover the fact that she might not have full mastery of the lyrics of the song. We love her for it.
Bendy Yvie Oddly
Yvie Oddly is one of the more colorful queens to win the competition and her contortion and ability to transform her body on stage is unparalleled. Here we find the winning queen in a signature pose. What a beautiful tattoo!
Gift from Tati
Tatianna is not a queen you want to cross. In the confessional-style talks with the audience, she was one of the absolute best. She changed the world after coining “choices” which she has now turned into a popular fragrance. Make good ones, okay?
“No tea, no shade, no pink lemonade” are words to live by. We have the effervescent Jasmine Masters to thank for that turn of phrase. This colorful tattoo imagines a big glass of pink lemonade to go along with it. Cheers!
The lovably weird Crystal Methyd debuted the most unreal looks on the runway. We don’t know how RuPaul found this strange creature but we’re better for it. We find her giving a nod to her roots in this piñata outfit that’s been transcribed in tattoo form.
Jinkx as Little Edie
Name a more iconic Snatch Game performance, we dare you. Jinkx Monsoon has plenty of heart to deliver along with all of the laughs. This queen’s turn as Little Edie of Grey Gardens fame, was pure joy. It’s no wonder that it’s inspired this marvelous tattoo.
Yekaterina Petrovna Zamolodchikova
The drag queen more commonly known as Katya performs a wonderful schtick as a caricature of a Russian woman. Here, we find a nod to it in this tattoo that imagines the drag queen as a nesting doll.
“You better work,” is a common phrase you’ll hear on RuPaul’s Drag Race and it’s become a motivational rallying cry for many fans. We adore this ombre-effect portrait of the queen of queens.
Drag queen you figured would win the season by a mile, Bianca Del Rio, is delightfully salty. The endlessly quotable character has coined, or at least, popularized a number of sayings. “Beauty fades, dumb is forever” has to be one of the very best. You’ll find an even more popular one later on this list.
Sasha Velour brought a surprising level of intellectualism into the “werk room” on her season. In her final lip sync for the season, the iconic bald head was revealed under a wig and it rained rose petals. Of all the queens we saw tattoos of, Sasha was found on more bodies than any other.
When the world wasn’t a smoldering dumpster fire, we had nice things to captivate our attention like the Met Gala. This stunning black tattoo shows winner, Violet Chachki in her interpretation of the “camp” theme in 2019.
One of our very favorite queens, Naomi Smalls did a great job on the olympics of drag, also known as All Stars. This glorious pinup imagination of her is a dream.
“Michelle Visage, the fiercest queen of them all,” the person who shared this image captioned it. We can’t argue with that! This very funny tattoo brilliantly captures her steely demeanor.
Very scary queen, Sharon Needles always leans into her darker tendencies. This breathtaking portrait of the drag queen plays to her gothic aesthetic. How fun!
Inventive and hilarious, Alaska gifted the world with a puppet version of herself which she named Lil’ Poundcake. We love this tattoo of the character and all of the white ink used to make her shine.
“Dill with it!” Miz Cracker entered a challenge as a character named Dr. Dill. The look was simply the queen dressed as a giant dill pickle that can now be enjoyed forever in the form of a tattoo.
Walk It Out
“Sissy that Walk” is a hit song performed by RuPaul that’s perfect for the runway. Here, we find a pair of legs tattooed in fishnets with the title lovingly scripted beneath.
Another queen with a devoted following is Adore Delano. Other than Sasha Velour and Katya, we saw more tattoos of this gifted, singing queen. Well, there’s on other which we’ll get to shortly. We love the blue ink and shading done on this design.
Another gift from Bianca, “Not today satan, not today!” is probably the most quoted line from the entire series. We find it tattooed here in a lovely peach-colored heart. These are words to live by!
The other queen who’s getting inked the most is none other than Trixie Mattel. We stumbled across hundreds of tattoos of Trixie solo and with her pal, Katya. This tattoo of one of her most fun looks, is a total blast.
Meme-queen, Miss Vanjie, gave fans of the show one of the best exits. Correction, it was the best exit from the competition. We can think of no better way to pay tribute than with this fabulous lipstick tattoo.
Reigning All Star
The best of the best, Shea Couleé is currently the reigning champion of All Stars. So, it should come as no surprise that tattoos that celebrate that win are popping up these days. This queen has it all and we love this handsome portrait of her.
The Rest is Drag
This glowing neon tribute to RuPaul finds the superstar in a Grace Jones-inspired look. Irreverent, playful, full of color, and very well done, this is one of the greatest tattoos of the world’s most famous drag queens we’ve ever seen.
Donut Come for Me
Slyly shady queen and makeup genius, Kim Chi turned the phrase “donut come for me” into a beloved slogan. We found it paired with Kim, tattoos of donuts, and more as we researched these tattoos. We love this pastel princess look!
