There is no rule that every Scorpio must get a black scorpion tattoo, but, as we discovered while researching their tattoos, they are a particular favorite and many, many Scorpios have them. Perhaps that’s because the Scorpio zodiac sign concerns itself with beginnings and endings, and is unafraid of either. They also travel in a world that is black and white and has little use for gray.
The constellation known as Scorpio has been a fascination since Babylonian times when it was called “the creature with the burning sting.” Scorpio contains the red star Antares, which means “the rival of Mars,” and is also called “the heart of the Scorpion.” This potent fixed star is observed in various astrological and magical practices as having an intense Mars-like quality. You’ll find a tattoo or two of the constellation here. Scorpio’s creativity, intuition, imagination, and strong investigative powers are all akin to the consolidating connectivity of their water element. You’ll also find these themes in their tattoos! Check out these 25 moody Scorpio tattoos that sting supreme.
One thing’s for sure, Scorpios love dark. Here, we find the shadow of a scorpion filled with stars, reflecting the night sky. We love the inclusion of white ink here as it really gives this design depth and makes it pop.
Here, we find a shiny scorpion on top of a golden circle. Perhaps this is a nod to the red star? Either way, we love the sharpness of this tidy tattoo.
Going minimal is always a fun exercise. Here, we find the scorpion in its most basic shape. This is a winning design because it completely conveys the creature without doing all the work for you. We love it.
Going red is a smart choice as it looks as good if not better than black ink in most cases. This hot little scorpion is tattooed on the inside of the arm just above the armpit, which is a particularly painful spot to get tattooed. If you’ve ever had the pleasure, you can back us up.
We love this cartoonish scorpion complete with several heart shapes and some dazzling, thorny roses. Although that little fawn is not the topic, we must say that it too is a joy to behold. Great work!
Scorpios, you can do more than just black. Here, we find a colorful form that’s filled with a floral pattern. The person who shared the image wrote that they wanted it to look like porcelain or dishes with delicate patterns. We love it.
While going big is always fun, you can always go small, really small. This micro tattoo of a scorpion is done with such a fine line it’s almost unbelievable. If you go in for a micro design, you’d be lucky to get a result as splendid as this one.
As we mentioned, there’s more to the world than just black and we find that abundantly clear with this clavicle tattoo. They got the whole rainbow in there and it’s totally rad.
In Scorpio, Mars has full affinity and potency in the warrior-like tendencies of this sign, but because it is in its nocturnal home, these powers take on a more secretive and covert expression. Wouldn’t you agree that that’s true of this dainty Scorpio symbol?
Here, we find a rather romantic imagining of a Scorpio goddess or queen. She’s flanked by beautiful flowers. Take a closer look at the hair and you’ll see that the lower part of it mimics a scorpion’s tail. Clever!
We find a rather large scorpion tattoo front and center on this person. This bold design is improved by the red crescent moon which helps bring it more character and some witchy vibes.
This blue scorpion looks very Americana-Neo-Traditional in style and we love classic designs like this one. The color choice of the inks is very smart here as a red background that almost glows really makes the arachnid pop.
Kind of Creepy
The though of actually encountering a scorpion with a tail this long is terrifying. What’s worse is the eye that seems to be lodged into its body. The sun here is a bright spot. What a wild one!
Constellations where flowers take the place of the stars are a common astrology-themed tattoo design. Here, we find some cute little flowers connected by their stems. You can’t go wrong with an understated design like this.
Tarot card tattoos are all the rage tight now. This is a beautiful example of the places you can take the genre. We absolutely love this design and it’s one of our favorites on this list. Take us to the desert!
Here’s an extremely imaginative design inspire by Scorpio. We find the constellation mirrored in the shape of the hair. The ponytail has been transformed into a scorpion’s tale. What a gem!
Feel the Sting
Scorpios seem color-averse when it comes to their tattoos, but we were able to include a few colorful examples like this one. Bubblegum pink and and purplish blue are a total treat.
Oh, wow! This dainty design is bringing the witchy vibes that we always crave. Beautiful and a little creepy, we love these fine lines and minute details. They make this design truly breathtaking.
Do you get it? This design is rather on the nose, but we like red and black paired together for tattoos. This traditional design has been executed marvelously and the shading is impeccable.
Give Them a Hand
This black, grey, and white design is filled with little clues and nods to Scorpio. The most obvious is the symbol, but what else do you see that reminds you of the sign?
Out for Blood
We chose this tattoo purely for its use of color. We love these bold choices. Purple, red, green, and gold really seem to work well together. The drops of blood give the design motion and make it feel more alive.
By all means, get weird with it. If you can’t tell at this point, Scorpios aren’t often interested in straying from the scorpion tattoo. If you’re going to do it, get creative as this person has with a very geometric 2D design that’s balanced by a circle of dots. Beautiful!
This constellation tattoo has a hint of watercolor goodness to it. The blue lilies seem almost painted on. There’s also a cloud of purple that really keeps things moody and ethereal.
We’re not entirely sure what’s going on with this Scorpio tattoo, but we don’t really care. We love all of the gorgeous, flowing linework that’s draped all over the design. They create amazing, organic shapes that are a delight to behold.
