In early August, news reports revealed a 16-year-old girl from California had gone missing. Kiely Rodni’s last known location was at a party with more than 100 of her peers.
Reports shared that those at the August 6th party were juveniles and young adults. The party took place near the Prosser Family Campground in Truckee, California, better known as “The Sanctuary.”
Heartbreaking News In the Search For Missing California 16-Year-Old Kiely Rodni
It was reported on Facebook on Sunday by the organization that had dedicated themselves to looking for Rodni for the last few weeks that a vehicle with a body inside that matched Rodni’s was discovered. Authorities confirmed the discovery two days later on August 23.
“Today, an autopsy was conducted on the deceased individual who was found in the Prosser Reservoir on Sunday, August 21st. The Nevada County Sheriff-Coroner has identified the decedent as 16-year-old Kiely Rodni, of Truckee,” the Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook.
“The Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office are in communication with Kiely’s family and offer our deepest condolences to them during this extremely difficult time. This is an ongoing investigation, and no other information is available at this time.”
Shortly after the discovery, Rodni’s family issued a statement of their own. In the statement, they said, “While we accept this sadness cast under death’s shadow, the rising sun shines light upon us, reminding us not to mourn our loss, but to celebrate Kiely’s spirit and the gift that we all received in knowing her. Kiely will surely remain with us even though we will not get her back.”
Although an autopsy was completed, the authorities have chosen not to release the cause or the manner of Rodni’s passing. The last time her phone transmitted a signal was around 12:30 a.m. on August 6th.

It’s also unclear where in the vehicle Rodni’s body was recovered from. However, as Today reports, the Honda CR-V, which was found submerged in 14 feet of water, roughly 55 feet from the shore, did belong to Rodni.
