Selena Gomez Explains Why She Failed to Keep in Touch With Her ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ Co-Stars After the Series Ended in 2012

Selena Gomez had her breakthrough as an actress at just 15 years old when she earned the lead role of Alex Russo in the Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place in 2007. The show was one of the most popular Disney series until it came to an end in 2012 after four seasons. By then, she was a star.

On Monday, Gomez sat down with two of her former co-stars, Jennifer Stone (who played her best friend, Harper Finkle, on the show) and David DeLuise (who played her father, Jerry Russo, on the show), for their newly-created podcast titled Wizards of Waverly Pod, which debuted on February 6.

They discussed a lot during the 44-minute episode, but one moment took the cake. At one point, Gomez what her biggest mistake was in life, but I don’t think he was expecting the answer he got. “Probably not staying in touch with you guys,” said Gomez – a remark that left DeLuise wiping tears from his eyes.

Selena Gomez went on to explain why she fell out of touch with her co-stars after the series came to an end. “I felt ashamed of the decisions that I made, and I didn’t want you guys to see me in the state that I was in because A, you would’ve told me the truth, which terrifies me, and B, I didn’t want to let you down.”

Both DeLuise and Stone were emotional as they thanked Gomez for her blunt honesty. “I miss you, and I’m happy you’re doing well now,” said David, while Jennifer replied, “To be perfectly blunt, there have been times where I’m like, did we stop being friends because I didn’t tell her what she wanted to hear?”

Gomez went on to explain how much they meant to her and how much she appreciated her co-stars – ultimately saying, “I love you so much in a way that I’ve never loved anybody else.” She also revealed that her time spent on Wizards of Waverly Place was the ‘happiest’ she had ever been in her whole life.

“Little did I know that I ended up with everyone I needed to be in my life. You guys genuinely loved me, and that’s all I could have asked for. The unconditional trust and bond we had — I miss so much,” Gomez continued. With a much bigger spotlight on her now, Gomez isn’t letting go of those she came up with.

Selena Gomez Becomes Instagram’s Most Followed Woman

Speaking of having a bigger spotlight now, Selena Gomez recently dethroned Kylie Jenner as the most followed woman on Instagram. The shining moment came on February 22, when Selena amassed 380,644,778 followers – according to Elle Magazine. At that time, Jenner had 380,425,729 followers.

It comes in the midst of quite the social media feud between Gomez and Jenner – who is also being backed up by Hailey Bieber. While the two socialites have criticized Selena, it has resulted in a flurry of backlash – mostly aimed at Bieber and Jenner. Meanwhile, Gomez continues to gain followers.

As of March 1, Jenner has lost approximately 500,000 followers over the past week – she sits at around 379,938,969 followers on the platform. Gomez, on the other hand, has gained more than 10 million followers over the past week and now has around 391,143,710 followers. Her fans always have her back.

With that said, it appears the feud might be over and was allegedly blown out of proportion as a result of fans ‘reaching’ and making something out of nothing. Either way, there’s a new ‘Queen of Instagram,’ and her name is Selena Gomez. The real question now is whether or not she can hit the 4 million mark.
