Shannen Doherty is focusing on friends, family and work amid her stage 4 Cancer battle.

In a recent ABC News interview, Doherty shared how she has accepted cancer as part of her life since coming out of remission in February 2020.

Doherty went on to reveal how she chooses to spend her time “with friends and family and working.”

“I think work was always very fulfilling to me, but in a way it’s become even more fulfilling,” Doherty said during her interview. “A lot of people who get diagnosed with stage 4, they sort of get written off.”

“It’s assumed that they cannot work or they can’t work at their full capacity,” Doherty continued. “And that is not true and that is something that I would really like for people to sort of stop assuming, and give us a chance to prove them wrong.”

Currently, Doherty’s cancer is being managed using protocols. Protocols are a special treatment plan that helps fight cancer, which Shannen calls “a very, very big thing.”

“You just want to last on your protocols as long as possible so that you don’t run out of protocols,” Doherty said during her interview.

In a recent Instagram post, the actress shared a post in honor of breast cancer awareness month.

“For breast cancer awareness month, I’d like to share more of my own personal journey from my first diagnosis to my second,” Shannen began. “Is it all pretty? NO but it’s truthful and my hope in sharing is that we all become more educated, more familiar with what cancer looks like.”

“I hope I encourage people to get mammograms, to get regular checkups, to cut [through] the fear and face whatever might be in front of you. In 2015 I got diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a mastectomy and did chemo and radiation. I had many nose bleeds from the chemo. Not sure if any of you experienced this. I also was beyond tired.”

Shannen concluded that in the end it was the little things that brightened her spirit. “I cheered myself up by putting on funny pajamas that my friend Kristy gave me. Did they actually cheer me up? Yes!! Lol. I looked ridiculous and in that ridiculousness, I was able to laugh at myself. Finding humor helped get me thru what seemed impossible. I hope we all find humor in the impossible. #breastcancerawareness”
