Former Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson East and her husband Andrew East are sharing their pro-tips on how they get their 4-month-old daughter to stop crying. The former professional football player took to Instagram to share a video of him doing the “magic hold” to a crying baby Drew.
As soon as the proud papa gently holds his little one by the chest and the “little booty” and starts to gently rock her up and down, she immediately stops crying.

“So parenting pro tip, a doctor told us about. So apparently there’s this magic hold that is instinctual for a baby to open their eyes with and stop crying.” Andrew added, “If you have a colicky baby or you know someone with it. It’s worth a try. It’s nice not having someone scream in your face.”
Shawn Johnson East Says She’s Become a ‘Micromanager’ Since Becoming a Mom
In an interview with Us Weekly, Shawn admitted that she has become a “micromanager” since giving birth to her daughter. “I feel like every mom becomes it, just because you have this instinct of how you think your kid should be raised, and dad will go over and do something and you’re like, ‘Oh no, she likes it this way.'”
She explained that her micromanaging was recently a topic of conversation between her and Andrew. “We actually had a conversation about that the other day. I’m like, ‘I’m sorry I have been working on it. I will try not to micromanage you.’”
However, it doesn’t seem like it bothers Andrew all that much. “He’s more the laidback, playful kind [of parent],” the new mom said of her husband. “I’m more of keeping on schedule.”
The Dancing With the Stars alum also opened up about experiencing mom guilt. “Every single decision you make you feel is impacting their future and setting them up for life or tearing them down. That guilt can really take over sometimes.”
