UPDATE: Following a lengthy investigation and an autopsy, an Inner London court has shared their findings.
After announcing they will be ending their involvement in Sinead O’Connor’s death, the court further revealed that O’Connor died “The Irish singer died “by natural causes.”
Eighteen months after her 17-year-old son passed away, legendary singer Sinead O’Connor has also passed away. She was 56 years old.
O’Connor was best known for her smash hit Nothing Compares 2 U.
According to the BBC, police are not treating Sinead’s July 2023 death as suspicious. In a statement provided by law enforcement, the singer was found unconscious inside her London home.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. It remains unclear how her body was discovered or if a wellness check was placed. “A file will be prepared for the coroner,” officers told the BBC.
A statement released by her surviving family revealed that they are “devastated” and filled “”with great sadness” over the loss of the beloved Sinead.
As Mamas Uncut reported in January 2022, O’Connor’s son Nev’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor passed away following a battle with mental health issues. Her last tweet paid homage to her beloved son:
“For all mothers of Suicided children. Great Tibetan Compassion Mantra,” Sinead wrote.
At the time of his passing, Shane was a patient at a hospital in Ireland. He was under a suicide watch but managed to escape from the facility.
Shane’s body was discovered two days later. At the time, Sinead wrote, “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God. May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”
After first learning Shane had gone missing, Sinead pleaded with her son in a tweet. “Shane, your life is precious. God didn’t chisel that beautiful smile on your beautiful face for nothing. My world would collapse without you. You are my heart. Please don’t stop it from beating. Please don’t harm yourself. Go to the Gardai and let’s get you to hospital,” she wrote.
Sinead also had her own struggles with mental health. However, her cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
