‘Sister Wives’ Stars Kody Brown and Christine Brown Are Getting Divorced: ‘It Delegitimizes Everything I’ve Worked For’

In the latest episode of Sister Wives, Kody Brown and Christine Brown shared their thoughts on their ongoing divorce, which was filed 12 months ago. The two are worried about how the public will perceive their divorce after 25 years of marriage, but their fear stems from two completely different sources.

“We’ve worked so hard begging the public to accept our marriage, our family. And in a moment, she decides we’re divorced. And it feels like it delegitimizes everything I’ve worked for, for so long,” said Kody Brown, adding that they’ve been together (publicly) for 12 years since the reality show began in 2010.

He’s worried the divorce will delegitimize his belief in the polygamist lifestyle – something he has been actively engaged in for the past three decades. When he allowed TLC to produce a reality show about his life with four wives, he wanted to show the rest of the world that there was merit to what he was doing.

“When I chose to leave Kody, I knew I would be open publicly about it and this was a decision that I was making that other people would know and it wasn’t a private decision. One of the things that I was concerned about was, would I be considered a fraud? Would I be considered a liar?” said Christine Brown.

His wife, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to be looking back – she’s the one that originally filed for the divorce. She knows she has to do what’s best for her and her family, adding she’s spent years trying to make it work. “If people want to look at me and think otherwise, OK. I can’t do anything about that.”

In wake of her decision, Christine Brown has since moved to Utah to start a new life closer to her children. The 50-year-old shares six children with Kody Brown – who also parents 12 other children with his other wives. She’s excited to spend more time with her family and will keep in touch with Kody as co-parents.

“Being a mom is my most important thing. I couldn’t with a clear conscience stay married to someone who had favorites and made it very known and someone who was breaking my kids’ hearts. I needed to stand with them instead and I wanted to do it for them,” she said before walking out of a short confessional.

You Can Catch Season 17 of ‘Sister Wives’ on TLC Every Sunday

While Kody Brown concerns himself with how fans of the show perceive his lifestyle, viewers are seeing the dysfunction in his family front and center in the newest season of Sister Wives. Not only is he going through a messy divorce with Christine, but he spends most of his time with his legal wife, Robyn.

Kody still considers Robyn, Meri, and Janelle his wives. He’s no longer intimate with Meri – his first wife, before leaving her for Robyn. While they have an amicable relationship, he says they’ve been split for roughly five years. Meri has made it clear she has no interest in divorcing Kody after 31 years together.

As for Janelle, she was married to Meri’s brother before tying the knot with Kody in 1993. The two are reportedly on good terms, but she’s also very close with Christine as the two spend a lot of time together. Robyn, the only one to who Kody is legally married, continues to be the ‘favorite’ among the three.
