When Corey Micciolo would have to go to his dad’s house, his mom, Bre Micciolo said her 6-year-old son hated it. In fact, her son would scream and hide in closets in an effort to evade going to his father’s house. And at first, the mom didn’t understand why.
Bre admitted that it wasn’t until Corey came back one day with bruises that she started to understand why her son dreaded visiting his father. According to Corey’s mom, the young boy told her that his dad, Christopher Gregor, would bite him on the head and also “repeatedly put him on the treadmill while calling him fat.”
In an interview with the Daily Voice, during one of those times on the treadmill, it was going too fast and Corey fell. “The treadmill was going too fast and Corey couldn’t keep up so he fell off and hit his chest.”
Shockingly, according to NJ.com, this incident took place in the fitness center of Christopher’s apartment and was caught on security cameras.
But, as Bre said in her interview, the fall allegedly didn’t stop Christopher from putting Corey back on the treadmill. “He made Corey get back on about six times. After the last time, he picked him up by the back of his shirt and put him back on and then bit his head.”
As the Daily Voice reported, Corey passed away 12 days after he fell from the treadmill. His cause of death was a “heart contusion.” Christopher has since surrendered to Barnegat police in early July.
Father Turns Himself In Months After Son’s Death
According to the Daily Voice and Ocean County authorities, Christopher has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child as a result of an incident that occurred on March 20. Corey passed away on April 2.
Authorities have not publicly revealed the details of that incident. “I’m not sure exactly what [Christopher] did to him to cause him to pass due to a heart contusion,” Bre told the Daily Voice. “But the last time I know exactly what happened was two weeks before his death,” the mom said referring back to the treadmill incident.
Bre further claimed that she “made many reports over the last two years about his abuse.” However, she says “absolutely no one in authority was helpful.”
The mom also claimed the day before Corey’s passing that a judge denied a request “to allow me to have temporary full custody pending a Child Protective Service investigation outcome.”
Christopher was being held without bond in Ocean County jail until he was released late last week while awaiting the start of his trial. However, his lawyer says he “denies all allegations.” As of July 19, he has not yet been charged with Corey’s death.
Despite his release, Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Christine Lento fought against it. “The video that was viewed by the court really speaks for itself in illustrating that this defendant did abuse this child,” she said. “I think when you watch the video, it’s fair to say that anyone who would do this to a child does pose a significant risk to the community.”
The investigation into the 6-year-old’s tragic passing remains open. Corey was to celebrate his seventh birthday in August.
